Rare earth elements (REEs) are metals including the 15 lanthanides together with Yttrium and Scandium. China is leading country in their exploitation production (∼90%). REEs necessary for of several technological devices. This extended use has raised concerns about human health safety. In this review, we investigated hazard to main gaps into knowledge like as need develop further focused research activity. We categorized papers collected eight sections: environmental exposure, association problems, exposure due lifestyle, REE through food chain, Gd contrast agents causing occupational cytotoxicity studies REEs. review provided information exposome (the body), existing data, that require attention must be investigated. More than one third literature toxicity cell lines, while hair, blood serum most studied matrices. The results evidenced can enter body via routes, associated numerous diseases, cause ROS production, DNA damage death, more toxic cancer cells normal cells.

The rare earth elements (REE) comprise a group of 16 chemically very similar that occur widespread in rocks, soils, and water bodies, share ionic radii to the essential element Ca2+, consequently also biota. Given REE form mainly trivalent cations, they similarities Al3+. Compared their chemical cognate Ca, have higher reactivity. Thus, accumulation soils may constitute severe environmental threat. Over last decades, increasing use modern technology fertilizers raised concerns about pollution which led rapidly number publications dealing with toxicity plants, animals humans, fate soil–plant systems, cycling ecosystems impacts on food security. This review aims give an overview current knowledge occurrence total environment, including relevant processes governing mobility, speciation transfer from abiotic compartments into Beginning analytical approaches, we summarize ecology lithosphere, pedosphere, hydrosphere biosphere, soil security public health.

Rare earth elements (REEs) are a new type of material resource which have attracted significant attention in recent years. REEs emerged as essential metals modern-day technology due to their unique functions. The long-term, large-scale mining and utilization rare earths has caused serious environmental pollution constitutes global health issue, raised concerns regarding the safety human health. However, toxicity profile suspended particulate matter environment, interacts with body, remains largely unknown. Studies shown that can enter body through variety pathways, leading organ system dysfunctions changes genetics, epigenetics, signaling pathways. Through an extensive literature search critical analysis, we provide comprehensive overview available evidence, identify knowledge gaps, make recommendations for future research directions.

The development of rare earth element (REE) production in Canada could generate significant economic benefits but also poses serious potential risks to the environment. Rare elements have been widely used modern life and industries are even indispensable some crucial advanced technologies (e.g., permanent magnets). Increasing demand current United States – China trade tensions provide a commercial opportunity for Canada, which has rich resources REEs, develop its own sector. However, environmental health issues caused by REE challenges that face given impacts reported elsewhere China). Little literature is available on associated with Canada. It important know what issues, particularly those generated REEs themselves, may happen future. Therefore, three major aspects evaluated summarized from multidisciplinary perspectives this paper: (1) general conceptual model transport as group environment established; (2) toxicity levels, biochemical mechanisms, physiological effects different organisms reviewed, case-studies existing mining areas briefly highlighted; (3) considering specific condition risk factors, future developments identified discussed. This review concludes macro-identification both human ecological health. We note ingestion, inhalation, dermal exposure workers surrounding residents (including potentially Indigenous communities) subarctic arctic climate conditions increase Finally, research directions proposed be applied Canadian other geographical contexts.

In recent decades, we have witnessed radical changes in the use of permanent biomaterials. The intrinsic ability magnesium (Mg) and its alloys to degrade without releasing toxic degradation products has led a vast range applications biomedical field, including cardiovascular stents, musculoskeletal, orthopedic applications. With biodegradable Mg biomaterials, patients would not suffer second surgery surgical pain anymore. Be that as it may, main drawbacks these biomaterials are high corrosion rate unexpected physiological environments. Since Mg-based implants expected show controllable match requirements specific applications, various techniques, such designing alloy modifying surface characteristics, employed tailor rate. this paper, some fundamentals particular aspects environments summarized, approaches control behavior presented.

We sampled abiotic and food web components in an impacted estuarine system to assess the transfer fate of rare earth elements (REE). REE (based on dry weight) were measured sediments, suspended particulate matter (SPM), organisms from different trophic levels. The highest ∑REE concentrations sediments (180 ± 4.24 mg kg–1) SPM (163 12.6 kg–1). Our study suggests consumption seafood is unlikely be important source for humans. However, given numerous dietary introduction REE, they should monitored possible harmful cumulative effect. This provides new key information REE's baseline transfers patterns.
