Abstract Biochar (BC) is a material synthesized from biomass by thermochemical conversion. Physicochemical and functional properties of BCs can be enhanced several methods activation or functionalization. The activated functionalized with large surface area abundant groups serve as effective catalysts catalyst supports for various chemical transformations well adsorption/sorption/enrichment low‐concentration pollutant streams. Among them, remediation environmental contaminants production range bioproducts in biorefineries have attracted much attention the context achieving green sustainable development.
