This contribution offers a thorough analysis of challenges and opportunities related to the adoption sustainable energy policies in specific developing countries (i.e., Albania, Brazil, India, Kenya). The use renewable sources must be increased if world is meet its climate goals alleviate negative effects fossil fuel consumption. However, due fiscal restrictions, institutional barriers, technology limitations, face particular adopting such policies. In order help these move towards future, this study analyses issues suggests viable solutions for policymakers.

Abstract As a source of diffuse pollution, land use/land cover (LULC) can have profound impacts on water quality. Accordingly, the importance managing land‐water nexus is often emphasized in rhetoric Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). Several authors, however, cautioned that this need frequently overlooked practice. This partly because stakeholders and policymakers are not equipped with clear accessible information about LULC resources consequent to manage both sustainable coordinated manner. The result persistent sectoral fragmentation management these two resources, concomitant failure develop proactive data‐driven catchment strategies. Aimed principally at academics, researchers, policymakers, article argues there an urgent need, especially developing countries such as South Africa, for ongoing research into resources. More particularly, accurate models will provide motivation, knowledge, understanding necessary effective, informed, A do so, illustrated by current situation may dire socioeconomic ecological consequences.

ABSTRACT Collaborative governance has been increasingly applied in the field of water governance. However, this approach is often criticized for overlooking political nature and necessity collaboration across multiple dimensions. The river chief system (RCS) China represents a collaborative designed to address challenges Chinese sector ultimately combat its severe pollution. This study develops conceptual framework analyze institutional design RCS examine effectiveness structuring vertical, horizontal, territorial collaborations local Taking Xiamen as case study, we find that public entities predominantly engage initiatives mandated by higher‐level authorities, while between state nonstate actors mainly focus on information collection environmental education. processes under are characterized unchallenged authority leaders, exclusive decision‐making mechanisms, restricted flows, implicit pay‐off structures, limited involvement actors. Consequently, falls short fostering effective multidimensional among diverse contributes literature offering insights into within an authoritarian context sheds lights China's recent reforms

The field of Water Resources Management (WRM) is becoming increasingly interdisciplinary, realizing its direct connections with energy, food, and social economic sciences, among others. Computationally, this leads to more complex models, wherein the achievement multiple goals sought. Optimization processes have found various applications in such WRM problems. This entry considers main factors involved modern WRM, puts them a single optimization problem, including water allocation from different sources uses non-renewable renewable energy supplies, their associated carbon emissions costs. explores problem mathematically by presenting approaches, as linear, fuzzy, dynamic, goal, non-linear programming models. Furthermore, codes for each model are provided Python, an open-source language. has educational character, examples presented easily reproducible, so expected be useful resource students, modelers, researchers, managers.

Abstract Scenarios have emerged as valuable tools in managing complex human‐natural systems, but the traditional approach of limiting focus on a small number predetermined scenarios can inadvertently miss consequential dynamics, extremes, and diverse stakeholder impacts. Exploratory modeling approaches been developed to address these issues by exploring wide range possible futures identifying those that yield vulnerabilities. However, vulnerabilities are typically identified based aggregate robustness measures do not take full advantage richness underlying dynamics large ensembles model simulations make it hard identify key and/or storylines guide planning or further analyses. This study introduces FRamework for Narrative Storylines Impact Classification (FRNSIC; pronounced “forensic”): scenario discovery framework addresses challenges organizing investigating using hierarchical classification outcomes across actors, sectors, scales, while also aiding selection storylines, system drive outcomes. Water reforms fail mainly because stubborn contextual constraints are not effectively considered. This study proposes a context-sensitive water governance assessment by designing comparative approach within case and making inductive analytic generalizations. The framework is applied empirically to the Zayandeh Rud basin in rentier state of Iran. results indicate that rentier-weak context has led centralized rent-seeking limited implementation capacity – characteristics entire country, just sector. issues will, therefore, require context-sensitive, problem-driven analysis beyond addressing challenges.
