Human cognitive skills have their limitations. Effective decision-making, however, requires a comprehensive assessment of the factors at stake. This work aims to examine how computational tools such as SimDec can support decision-making process and potentially provide more clarity though visualizations scenario decomposition individual decision-makers in day-to-day lives. Six real-life personal cases were tackled with different mathematical modelling approaches from simple single-equation functions multi-criteria decision-making. The resulting interaction case protagonists analytics turned static-decision framework into dynamic which, some cases, even led restructuring entire situation.

ABSTRACT Smart local energy systems (SLESs) are central to enhancing localization and decentralization of the sector. Although these widely studied in literature, Nordic conditions probabilistic approaches have remained out spotlight. This study analyzes economically optimized configurations for a SLES. We define cost levels at which various technologies become feasible invest in. also evaluate life cycle emission reductions achievable from systems. Our case utilizes Monte Carlo optimization with integrated economic models. The results 2000 cost‐optimized SLES years 2020–2023 indicated that compared baseline, levelized electricity reduced 98% cases, while specific greenhouse gas emissions 97% cases. mean positive carbon handprint was 44%. Maximum costs deploy were 30 €/MWh wind power, 500 €/kW solar 120 €/kWh battery storage. For a computational model to be useful for decision-making purposes, its foundations need "shaken" sufficiently so that one can ascertain what might happen if underlying assumptions ever changed. This type of robustness assessment is performed via the techniques sensitivity analysis and uncertainty analysis. These supply many alternative pathways under which such evaluations conducted. In this chapter, we consider full spectrum tools – from setting up computer experiments, analyzing their results, discussing variety methods at each phase, investigating how overall process actually deployed effectively in practice. Our conclusions on current "state practice" are worrying. The most commonly used one-at-a-time severely mislead decision-makers. Further that, simple Monte Carlo simulations portraying output distributions not sufficient understand actual drivers behind behaviour. Advanced global analyses often focused quantification they miss any insights into nature effects. Conversely, novel Simulation Decomposition (SimDec) method incorporates best components both enables production holistic very straightforward fashion thereby reinforcing considerable potential widespread adoption anywhere performed.

Revenue risk due to demand fluctuations is one of the major issues affecting public infrastructure projects (building bridges, airports, schools, etc.). It becomes much more critical when private partners have been involved in construction, financing, and operation projects, as it enters into realm Public–Private Partnerships (PPP). In PPP revenue impacts project profitability for investor. To attract financing governments must frequently include supplementary guarantees mitigate this risk. The reliability of steel structures is a complex nonlinear phenomenon that depends on multiple external and technological factors. Accumulated fatigue can lead to sudden collapse construction, resulting in lost reputations, sunk investments, even loss lives. Thus, accurate models capture damage accumulation are paramount importance, as the adequate methods explain communicate input–output relationships model. In this study, we apply Simulation Decomposition (SimDec) assessment model developed for welded joints. SimDec exposed communicated three-dimensional heterogeneous effect three input variables interact pairwise affect output fashion conditioned each other. Identifying such effects critical when designing reliable structures.
