Here, we show that biomass derived from waste wood forest (silver birch trees, Betula pendula) is an excellent starting material for fabricating activated carbon supercapacitors. The was prepared via hydrothermal carbonization with H3PO4 followed by pyrolysis. effect of sulfur doping on its physicochemical and electrochemical properties evaluated. samples were named BCM (biomass material) non-doped S-BCM (sulfur–biomass the doped samples. We further (with around 7% content) radically increases these nanoparticles' performance, leading to higher capacitance stability. increased specific surface area 2124 m2 g–1 compared (1972 g–1), as reflected in enhancement number micropores. In addition, according Raman spectroscopy analysis, structural defects based ID/IG values (S-BCM = 2.23 1.98). Furthermore, hydrophilicity particles, allowing us disperse them water use layer-by-layer self-assembly fabricate supercapacitor electrodes nanometer-layer precision. assembled exhibited a than those pristine highest measured at 79.1 F/g 1 A/g. They also had stability retention 85.3% after 10 000 charge–discharge cycles. Our work shows promising route making advanced high-performance electrode materials supercapacitors using byproducts, which especially relevant Nordic hemisphere, minimize footprint while enabling energy storage devices aim reach smooth transition toward fossil-free future.
