blood-brain

permeability

hemorrhagic
transformation
(HT)

reperfusion

tissue
plasminogen
activator
(tPA),

only

Administration
(FDA)-approved
treatment
for
acute
ischemia
stroke
(AIS).
The
therapeutic
benefits
of
tPA
AIS
are
partially
outweighed
by
a
more
than
six-fold
increase
in
risk
symptomatic
intracerebral
hemorrhage.
Therefore,
strategies
protect
integrity
BBB
urgently
needed
reduce
HT
thrombolysis
or
endovascular
thrombectomy.
Interestingly,
an
NIH
study
showed
that
smokers
treated
had
significantly
lower
prevalence
brain
hemorrhage
nonsmokers,
suggesting
cigarette
smoking
may

side
effects

Abstract
Background
Periodontitis
and
Alzheimer's
disease
(AD)
are
age-related
diseases
that
reciprocally
act
as
risk
factors.
It
has
been
reported
periodontal
pathogen
Porphyromonas
gingivalis

to
neuroinflammation
mediated
by
microglial
cells,

in
the
onset

AD.
