Abstract
The
variability
in
environmental,
social,
and
governance
(ESG)
ratings
poses
challenges
for
investors
companies.
Drawing
on
data
from
Chinese
A-share
listed
firms
(2015–2023),
we
show
that
corporate
charitable
donations
(CCD)
significantly
reduce
ESG
rating
uncertainty
(ESGSTD),
reinforced
by
CEO
green
experience,
overseas
education,
academic
background.
Robust
checks
confirm
these
findings.
Corporate
reputation
media
attention
are
key
mechanisms
linking
CCD
to
reduced
inconsistency.
ESG-focused
further
amplify
this
effect.
Our
results
underscore
the
importance
of
strategic
social
responsibility
activities,
attributes,
public
visibility
enhancing
consistency.

global
digital
transformation
accelerates
alongside
the
“dual
carbon”
goal,
understanding
how
economy
can
drive
green
of
traditional
energy
systems
is
critical
to
overcoming
resource
and
environmental
constraints.
This
study
examines
impact

Green
Total
Factor
Energy
Efficiency
(GTFEE)
using
panel
data
from
275
Chinese
prefecture-level
cities
between
2011
2022.
Three
main
findings
emerged.
First,
an
increase
in
significantly
enhances
GTFEE,
serving
as
a
key
driver
improved
efficiency.
Specifically,
one-standard-deviation
raises
GTFEE
by
0.276
standard
deviations.
Second,
this
effect
operates
through
two
pathways:
(1)
technology
advancements,
such
higher
internet
penetration;
(2)
human
capital
accumulation,
reflected
greater
college
student
ratio;
(3)
innovation,
measured
rise
patents.
Third,
regional
heterogeneity
evident,
with
stronger
positive
effects
eastern
coastal
cities,
while
high-carbon-intensity
regions
exhibit
suppressed
impact.
These
results
underscore
importance
public
engagement
digitalization
optimize
systems.

region-specific
