Efficient hydrogen production through Methanol Steam Reforming (MSR) is an area of high importance due to its environmental suitability and superior energy efficiency compared methane steam reforming. Therefore, we present a comprehensive investigation into the development copper-based catalysts for MSR. Over past decades, research in this domain has intensified, encompassing Cu-based that exhibit notable promise. Strategies enhance catalytic activity stability involve utilisation mesoporous support materials with tuneable properties, novel promoters, introduction mixed oxides metal organic framework amongst others. Furthermore, paper underscores significance catalyst morphology precursors determining their final performance. Several new have shown remarkable selectivity while minimizing carbon monoxide even at elevated temperatures, positioning them as strong candidates environmentally friendly commercial methanol Valuable insights synthesis approaches performance variations across different groups are also presented.
