Major global gulfs are essential for economic development but remain highly vulnerable to environmental pollutants. Despite progress in gulf research, the extent of research investment environments across different regions worldwide remains unclear, which hinders a unified framework bay management. We aim fill this gap by integrating GIS and Python-based methods identify ten largest globally conducting statistical analysis publications from 2000 2024 these gulfs, based on Web Science core database. find that publication numbers show correlation with size gulf. However, Gulf Mexico St. Lawrence higher volumes, likely influenced activities major incidents. In contrast, such as Hudson Bay Carpentaria receive relatively less attention. This suggests scientific output may be attributed significant events. Water quality predominates, while sediment studies, particularly high-latitude areas (such Bay), account lowest proportion, possibly due sampling costs challenges. Traditional pollutants, especially heavy metals (HMs) persistent organic pollutants (POPs), primary focus research. The investigation emerging contaminants reveals regional disparities, emphasizing necessity further enhanced regulatory frameworks. study provides evidence governance environments.

Surface waters, particularly rivers, are paramount in serving as the primary global water source and a pivotal economic driver. Various pollution sources can negatively impact quality. The Water Framework Directive has established regulations that define specific chemical ecological statuses for rivers. Consequently, there is an ongoing commitment to monitor their quality closely. This study involved collection of samples from two watersheds (Laspias Lissos) within Eastern Macedonia Thrace Region. rivers flow along regions characterized by notable environmental stressors, including WWTP, landfills, industrial zones, agricultural areas, which also constitute substantial contributors local economy. study’s outcomes, covering springs coast, presented analyzed using various indices, Canadian Council Ministers Environment Quality Index (CCME-WQI), discriminate analysis, trophic status index (TRIX). assessment included measurement physicochemical parameters, common pollutants, major ions. analysis revealed “bad” most Laspias sectors Lissos, with parameters exceeding thresholds set legislation. demonstrated significant organic nutrient pollution. Given these significantly influenced urban, agricultural, runoff, imperative need change necessitates interventions improve Observations measurements fundamental prerequisites raising awareness among citizens stakeholders finding effective management measures river basins.

Abstract A comprehensive analysis of municipal solid plastic waste (MSPW) management while emphasizing pollution severity in coastal cities around the world is mandatory to alleviate augmenting footprint nature. Thus, decision-makers’ persuasion for numerous solutions MSPW flow-control can be met through meditative systematic strategies at regional level. To forecast focused on policies, an agent-based system dynamics (ASD) model has been developed and simulated from 2023 2040 considering significant knit parameters Khulna City Bangladesh. Baseline simulation results show that per-capita generation will increase 11.6 kg by 8.92 2023. Eventually, landfilled quantity accumulated 70,000 tons within 18 years. Moreover, riverine discharge increased 834 a baseline 512 So index (PWFI) value rises 24 2040. Furthermore, absence technological initiatives responsible logarithmic rise non-recyclable 1.35*1000=1350 tons. Finally, two consecutive policy scenarios with factors such as controlled discharge, collection separation waste, expansion recycle business, locally achievable conversion technologies have simulated. Therefore, 2, 69% conversion, 80% source separation, 50% reduction MSPW, found adequate sustainability perspective lowest PWFI ranges 3.97 1.07 alongside 7.63 10 till Graphical abstract
