ABSTRACT Macroalgae are increasingly studied for their critical contributions to coastal ecosystems, potential mitigate climate change, and promise as a sustainable food source. While wild macroalgae host diverse epiphytic invertebrate epibiont communities that enhance biodiversity ecosystem functioning, biofouling epibionts on farmed can negatively impact growth, physiology, product quality. Although an increasing number of longitudinal studies trying establish the drivers biofouling, localized approaches lack sufficient contrasts in environmental conditions reveal macroecological patterns occurrence.
