N-Heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes are known to have antibacterial properties in solutions. However, these never been immobilized on solid supports prepare surfaces. Here, we tackled this lack and succeeded immobilizing NHC gold surfaces by electropolymerization. For this, synthesized a series of various different low-valent transition metals (M = Ag(I), Au(I), Rh(I), Ru(II), Cu(I)) bearing pyrrole function at the five-membered carbenic cycle. We measured against two Gram-negative (Escherichia coli Pseudomonas aeruginosa) Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus Listeria innocua) determining their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values. All presented interesting that metal-dependent. The silver-NHC complex showed higher activity (MIC 16 μg·mL-1) than 32 was poorly efficient L. innocua. other metal-NHC were more bacteria, with MIC values range 4-16 μg·mL-1. These then electropolymerized substrates using function. Efficient incorporation species into polypyrrole (PPy) films confirmed X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements metal contents ranging from 0.8% (Cu) 12.3% (Ag).
