The development of wood adhesives that exhibit robust adhesion, exceptional water resistance, sustainability, affordability, nontoxicity, and simplicity is highly recommended for practical applications. In this study, the structure microcrystalline cellulose was successfully modified with dialdehyde groups based on previous reports. Aromatic polyamines urea were polymerized into phenyl-polyurea (Ph-U) through fusion condensation, without use catalysts or solvents. DAC-Ph-U synthesized reaction between (DAC) Ph-U under ambient conditions. Reinforcing cross-linking effects its properties systematically investigated. mechanical, adhesive, repellent enhanced introduction aldehyde (from DAC) amino group Ph-U) interactions Schiff base cross-linking. interaction covalent (C=N) multiple non-covalent bonds in cross-linked system functions as a hydrophobic barrier, impeding infiltration bonding interface. strength test revealed optimal reached 2.91 MPa (dry strength), 1.96 (after 63 °C immersion), 1.75 burning respectively. Its comprehensive not only superior to traditional formaldehyde-based resin but also far higher than requirements industrial wood-based panels. This study provides ideas replacing fossil aldehydes such formaldehyde, glyoxal, glutaraldehyde, etc. adhesive fields can be potentially generalized reinforce performance biocomposites, coatings, plastics, hydrogels,
