The rapid pace of global industrialization and population growth has intensified freshwater scarcity water pollution, necessitating urgent solutions. Adsorption technology, favored for its cost-effectiveness, simplicity, scalability, emerged as a promising approach. Hydrogels, particularly cellulose-based hydrogels (CBHs), have gained significant attention green adsorbents due to their biodegradability, non-toxicity, low cost, exceptional adsorption capacity. This paper reviews recent advancements in CBHs sustainable wastewater treatment, focusing on synthesis techniques, performance, mechanisms removing heavy metals, dyes, micropollutants. Updated applications outcomes are also discussed. Despite advantages, face challenges such limited mechanical strength, practical production difficulties, insufficient reuse studies, separation inefficiencies. review addresses these issues explores future prospects implementation. findings provide valuable insights into advancing efficient treatment

Chitosan-based polymer hydrogels have emerged as promising materials for water treatment applications due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and adsorption properties. In this review, we conducted a comprehensive search on latest development bibliometric approach analyse current research trends advancements in chitosan-based process. The analysis includes valuable insights into patterns, key authors, network collaboration co-citation clusters understanding the role of advancing technologies. Employing strategy, new were obtained from reported using Scopus database 1960 2024. data indicates consistent increase number publications. China India are leading countries at forefront output. 'International Journal Biological Macromolecules' was identified most cited journal waste treatment. This study offers thematic descriptive use field applications. Future work should concentrate developing hydrogel synthesis methods improving efficiency.
