This study explores how design thinking (DT) for sustainable futures fosters higher education (HE) students’ sustainability competencies. By analysing the DT process of two teams HE students co-designing digital educational technologies to address challenges (namely, children’s nature connection and their engagements with fast fashion), we identify competencies defined by GreenComp framework emerge temporally, across phases, which practices foster or hinder development. Our findings three specific practices—and ways enact those effectively—that unlock transformative potential enable embody values, embrace complexity in sustainability, envision futures. work contributes field Education Sustainability (EfS) demonstrating design-based learning can promote challenge-centred, collaborative within HE. Drawing on our findings, also raise need new pedagogical interventions that strengthen emergence DT.

As result, successfully learning, where each student went multidimensional embodied experiences. Furthermore, results show how as can support encouraging disorienting dilemmas, promoting reflection discourse, fostering relationships, providing context, offering an engaging bring into practice HSE, it be implemented effectively digital or approach without need for complex structural changes. paper provide concrete lessons curriculum development teaching HSE.

This paper describes the role of Design Thinking (DT) in context sustainable development (SD), based on a perceived research need to identify features which may characterise its deployment, and ways via it be optimised, especially implementation United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The main goal this study is examine connection between DT SD showcase examples what has been done deploy it, using real-case situations. From methodological perspective, deploys set two methods: bibliometric analysis case studies. Among other findings, shows that can used help implement UN SDGs by providing an approach emphasises human-centred design. includes identifying problems, creating user-friendly solutions, testing them order ensure they are effective.
