ABSTRACT This paper proposed a novel negative stiffness damped outrigger with damping amplification (NSDO‐DA) through smart combination of an L‐shape lever, precompressed disc spring brace (DSB), and viscous damper. A theoretical model the NSDO‐DA considering nonlinear adaptive stiffness, dampers, frictions were established. Cyclic tests pairs DSB presented to verify feasibility using as precompression component NSDO‐DA. Subsequently, large‐scale dynamic five different systems conducted involving (i) conventional (CDO), (ii) amplified (ADO), (iii) purely mechanism, (iv) (NSDO), (v) Then, discussions on test results validations provided. The major contributions this are proposal experimental validation its two special features: producing force in parallel direction rather than perpendicular direction, making physical configuration more concise condensed for application; sharing mechanism lever both damper leading additional Moreover, behavior frequency‐independent feature successfully validated by tests.

The functionality and structural safety of super high–rise buildings are significantly challenged during seismic events. Although conventional damped outrigger (CDO) systems effectively mitigate seismic–induced vibrations, the energy dissipation capacity remains inherently limited. An inerter, with lightweight tuning capabilities dynamic negative stiffness characteristics, can enhance efficiency when integrated elements. To control performance this study proposes a multi–inerter–negative (INSDO) system focuses on different INSDO combinations to improve responses buildings. Taking dual–outrigger as an example, systematically compares performances five configurations. results demonstrate that all these configurations achieve notable damping performances, AND combination delivering optimal outcomes. This improvement is attributed synergistic interaction between inerter elements, which enhances damper’s hysteretic improves its capacity. configuration exceeds single by 71.37%.
