Abstract
Background
.
In
Canada,
multiple
studies
reported
an
increase
in
youth-reported
anxiety,
depression,
and
substance
use
over
the
course
of
COVID-19
pandemic.
As
country
has
decreased
restrictions,
it
is
important
to
consider
public
health
planning
for
future
pandemics
emergencies,
light
associated
youth
mental
burden.
To
prevent
from
falling
further
behind,
we
need
focus
on
recommendations
optimize
Canada’s
response.
The
objective
study
was
generate
concrete,
youth-derived
government,
policymakers,
service
planners
support
next
pandemic
or
emergency.
Methods
Using
a
virtual,
modified
Delphi,
Youth
Delphi
Expert
Panel
Members
rated
recommendation
items
three
rounds,
with
option
create
their
own
items.
“Consensus”
defined
priori
if
≥
70%

group,
subgroups
(e.g.,
age,
race/ethnicity,
gender
sexual

Although
the
COVID-19
pandemic
has
caused
tremendous
disruptions
in
many
college
students'
lives
and
increased
rates
of
internalizing
symptoms
perceived
stress,
multi-year
trends
student
mental
health
are
still
being
uncovered.
Moreover,
very
few
longitudinal
studies
investigate
changes
psychosocial
stressors
identified
by
students
their
own
words.
The
present
study
addressed
these
needs
literature
using
self-report
data
collected
from
three
cohorts
(total
N
=
1,042)
recruited
across
academic
years
(2020–2023).
A
mixed-methods
approach
was
used
to
explore
links
between
quantitative
regarding
(e.g.
depression,
anxiety,
somatization)
qualitative
write-in
challenges
experienced
during
pandemic.
Elevated
lower-than-normative
levels
physical
persisted
all
years,
with
anxiety
somatization
most
elevated
final
year.
Through
data,
a
wide
range
challenges,
including
health,
finances,
remote
learning,
linked
symptoms.
In
latter
they
reported
emerging
difficulties
face-to-face
activities
lowered
confidence

skills.
Findings
indicate
strong,
continuing
need
for
targeted
universal
intervention,
special
