Abstract Background Uric acid has antioxidant properties, and several studies have suggested its neuroprotective effects. Despite reports of increased oxidative damage decreased antioxidants in anxiety disorders, findings remain inconclusive. This study investigated the association between serum uric levels symptoms, stratified by sex, using nationwide data from South Korea. Methods Data were derived Korea National Health Nutrition Examination Survey, which included 2,228 males 2,805 females. Presence symptoms was defined as a Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) score ≥ 10. Study participants categorized into three groups based on levels: 1 (lowest) to 3 (highest). Multivariable logistic regression analyzed sex. Results Compared reference group 2, females had (odds ratio (OR) 2.28, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.48–3.49). When GAD-7 5, (OR 1.68, CI 1.30–2.16) 1.35, 1.04–1.74) both showed more than with U-shaped relationship symptoms. In males, weren't significantly linked Conclusions indicates that low are associated higher prevalence only females, suggesting involvement stress disorders sex-based variation.

Oxidative stress-mediated astrocytic damage contributes to nerve injury and the development of depression, especially under stress conditions. Peroxisomes pexophagy are essential for balancing oxidative protein degradation products. Our previous findings suggest that peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor β/δ (PPARβ/δ) activation significantly alleviates depressive behaviors by preventing injury. However, underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In present study, we established treating astrocytes with corticosterone. Subsequently, PPARβ/δ agonists antagonists were applied determine effects on peroxisomes in astrocytes. The agonist (GW0742) improved cell viability decreased intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production induced corticosterone, while pretreatment PPARβ/δ, antagonist GSK3787 reversed GW0742. Moreover, activating promoted peroxisomal biogenesis factor 5 (PEX5)-mediated enhancing phosphorylation ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) kinase. Conversely, blocking partially abolished Further investigations demonstrated not only transcription ubiquitin ligase E3 component n-recognin (UBR5) but also enhanced interaction between UBR5, contributing ATM interactor (ATMIN) degradation, increased phosphorylated kinase levels. Therefore, this study revealed improves corticosterone-induced pexophagy. directly interacts UBR5 facilitate ATMIN promotes phosphorylation, thereby maintaining balance These is a potential target promoting upon stress.

Background and purpose: Padina pavonica , a brown alga, displays protection against oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, neurodegenerative disorders. Considering the beneficial effects of P. since its antidepressant have not yet been studied, we investigated methanol hexane partitions (PMP PHP) in mice model. Experimental approach: In male (25 ± 2 g), depression was initiated by administrating dexamethasone (15 μg/kg) subcutaneously. PMP or PHP (80-160 mg/kg) administered intraperitoneally. All injections continued for two weeks. After locomotor test, different criteria were evaluated forced swim test (FST), marble burying (MBT), sucrose preference (SP) novelty-suppressed feeding (NSFT). Findings/Results: (160 showed effects, immobility time decreased significantly during FST (84.6 10.4 s) compared to control, food intake increased NSFT (21.1 2.5 mg/g) versus SP 81%. (80 reduced 124.5 6.7 s vehicle 85%. Dexamethasone-induced depression. While co-treatment with prevented dexamethasone. Only number buried marbles after 30 min control. The applied doses did cause significant changes activity. Conclusion implications: exhibited antidepressant-like mice. also marbles, implying reduction obsessive-like behavior. These observations underscore constituents inherent PHP, which merit further exploration elucidate their potential therapeutic applications.

Background: Previous studies have highlighted the significant role of oxidative stress in depression. Conversely, Heracleum persicum has demonstrated notable antioxidant properties. However, no study been conducted to explore antidepressant effects H. essential oil (HPEO) and its mechanisms action. Objectives: This investigates potential HPEO a forced swim test (FST). Methods: In this study, mice (22 - 28 g) were administered (125 500 mg/kg, i.p.) one hour before performing FST. Additionally, mouse serum levels glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT), nitric oxide (NO) measured. To assess monoaminergic system mechanism action oil, various receptor antagonists (500 mg/kg). Results: The mg/kg) increased CAT GSH decreased NO levels. Acute administration (250 reduced immobility FST without significantly altering animals' locomotion open field (OFT). Pretreatment with sulpiride, haloperidol, SCH23390, yohimbine, prazosin, p-chlorophenylalanine (pCPA), WAY100135, ketanserin, reserpine restrained HPEO. Conclusions: For first time, research demonstrates HPEO, which appears be mediated by dopaminergic, serotonergic, noradrenergic systems, as well
