In the rapidly changing digital economy, manufacturing companies are under growing pressure to adopt new approaches business management by developing capabilities. This research explores role of technologies in enabling these capabilities, using Digital Capability Model (DCM) as a guiding framework. While previous often focused on theoretical perspectives, this study operationalizes DCM identifying specific applications that enhance processes. Through multiple case methodology, eight were examined assess how foster development The studies provide practical insights into application and their impact organizational resilience competitiveness, particularly response global disruptions such COVID-19 pandemic. Our findings reveal certain more promising than others for enhancing capabilities strategic implementation significantly improves company’s ability navigate uncertainty. Purpose Despite wide awareness of the importance digital transformation (DT) for emerging market firms, we have limited understanding drivers, process or outcomes DT in firms. Design/methodology/approach We conducted a qualitative study on 24 case companies Thailand and embraced thematic analysis to generate our research findings. Findings The framework shows that firms proceeds over three stages—market-opportunity sensing, technology acquisition leading DT—which are driven by technological dynamism, business ties institutional support. Once is successfully implemented, can improve their operational efficiency, customer relationship management, model innovation human resources management. Originality/value This thus contributes literature offering three-stage identifying important antecedents consequences DT, which together specify how transform themselves digitally.
