Photoreduction of CO2 into sustainable and green solar fuels is generally believed to be an appealing solution simultaneously overcome both environmental problems energy crisis. The low selectivity challenging multi-electron photoreduction reactions makes it one the holy grails in heterogeneous photocatalysis. This Review highlights important roles cocatalysts selective photocatalytic reduction using semiconductor catalysts. A special emphasis this review placed on key role, design considerations modification strategies for photoreduction. Various cocatalysts, such as biomimetic, metal-based, metal-free, multifunctional ones, their are summarized discussed, along with recent advances area. provides useful information highly photo(electro)reduction electroreduction complements existing reviews various photocatalysts.

In the light of increasing energy demand and environmental pollution, it is urgently required to find a clean renewable source. these years, photocatalysis that uses solar for either fuel production, such as hydrogen evolution hydrocarbon or pollutant degradation, has shown great potential achieve this goal. Among various photocatalysts, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are very attractive due their excellent structural regularity, robust framework, inherent porosity good activity. Thus, many studies have been carried out investigate photocatalytic performance COFs COF-based photocatalysts. critical review, recent progress advances COF photocatalysts thoroughly presented. Furthermore, diverse linkers between building blocks boron-containing connections nitrogen-containing summarised compared. The morphologies several commonly used strategies pertaining activity also discussed. Following this, applications detailed including evolution, CO2 conversion degradation contaminants. Finally, summary perspective on opportunities challenges future development given.

Inspired by nature, artificial photosynthesis through the construction of direct Z-scheme photocatalysts is extensively studied for sustainable solar fuel production due to effectiveness in enhancing photoconversion efficiency. However, there still a lack thorough understanding and evidence charge transfer these photocatalysts. Herein, recyclable composite film composed titanium dioxide cadmium sulfide (TiO2 /CdS) prepared high-efficiency photocatalytic carbon (CO2 ) reduction. In situ irradiated X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ISI-XPS) confirms charge-carrier migration pathway system. Furthermore, density functional theory simulation identifies intrinsic cause formation heterojunction between TiO2 CdS. Thanks significantly enhanced redox abilities carriers system, CO2 reduction performance optimized /CdS 3.5, 5.4, 6.3 times higher than that CdS, , commercial (P25), respectively, terms methane production. This work valuable guideline preparation highly efficient nanocomposite applications.
