This research focuses on the removal of emerging contaminants (CEC) present in synthetic aqueous matrices. Azole compounds were selected as CEC interest due to their persistence and toxicity, particularly triazole oxazole groups. These are also trace listed proposed revision Directive 91/271/EEC urban wastewater treatment 3rd European Union Observation List (Implementing Decision EU 2020/116), highlighting regulatory importance. The draft includes implementation quaternary treatments achieve highest possible rates micropollutants. Among technologies used a large scale some advanced oxidation processes (AOP), often combined with adsorption activated carbon (AC). Laboratory-scale pilot plants have been designed operated this research, including UV photolysis H2O2 GAC. results demonstrate that is able remove all CECs except fluconazole, reaching eliminations higher than 86% at high doses 31.000 J/m2. Treatment by achieved removals 4 55%, proving be ineffective degradation persistent when acting single technology. Adsorption AC improved longer contact times, above 80% for benzotriazole methyl short followed sulfamethoxazole tebuconazole. Fluconazole had mean capacity low while metconazole penconazole showed capacities.

This review compiles the studies (2007-2021) regarding occurrence of emerging organic contaminants (EOCs) and endocrine disruptors (EDs) in wastewater, surface water groundwater Mexico. A total 174 compounds were detected, including pharmaceuticals, hormones, plasticizers, personal care products, sweeteners, drugs, pesticides considered as EDs. The levels EOCs EDs varied from ng/L to 140 mg/L, depending on compound, location, compartment. Raw wastewater was most studied matrix, showing a greater abundance number detected compounds. Nevertheless, waters showed high concentrations bisphenol-A, butylbenzil-phthalate, triclosan, pentachlorophenol, hormones estrone, 17 α-ethinylestradiol, β-estradiol, which exceeded thresholds set by international guidelines. Concentrations α-ethinylestradiol triclosan exceeding above-mentioned limits reported groundwater. Cropland irrigation with raw principal activity introducing into considerably lesser than that highlighting attenuation capacity soils/aquifers during infiltration. However, carbamazepine N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide higher those suggesting their accumulation/concentration soils/pore-waters. Although contamination resources represents one environmental concerns Mexico, this brings light lack Mexican waters, is important for public health policies developing legislations incorporates priority national quality Consequently, development will support regulatory compliance drinking water, reducing human exposure.

Abstract Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) are a unique group of wastewater remediating technology that possesses the added advantage valuable recovery with concomitant treatment. Moreover, due to application robust microbial biocatalysts in BESs, effective removal emerging contaminants (ECs) can be accomplished these BESs. Thus, this review emphasizes recent demonstrations pertaining complex organic pollutants concern present through BES. Owing recalcitrant nature pollutants, they not effectively removed conventional treatment and thereby discharged into environment without proper Application BES terms ECs degradation mechanism along valuables recovered discussed. factors affecting performance BES, like biocatalyst, substrate, salinity, applied potential also summarized. In addition, elucidates occurrence toxic as well future recommendations commercialization for from wastewater. Therefore, intends aid researchers developing more efficient BESs

The first traces of Tetracycline (TE) were detected in human skeletons from Sudan and Egypt, finding that it may be related to the diet time, use some dyes, soils loaded with microorganisms, such as Streptomyces spp., among other microorganisms capable producing antibiotics. However, most people only recognise authors dating between 1904 1940, Ehrlich, Domagk, Fleming. Antibiotics are therapeutic option for countless infections treatment; unfortunately, they second common group drugs wastewaters worldwide due failures industrial waste treatments (pharmaceutics, hospitals, senior residences) their irrational humans animals. main antibiotics problem lies delivered non-prescribed use, livestock growth promoters, crop cultivation biocides (regulated activities have not complied places). This practice has led toxicity environment generate eutrophication, water pollution, nutrient imbalance, press antibiotic resistance. In addition, removal is a required process global wastewater treatment standards. review aims raise awareness negative impact residues physical, chemical, biological degradation. We discuss high cost physical chemical treatments, risk using chemicals worsen situation, fact each class can transformed differently these new compounds could more toxic than original ones; also, we enzymes degradation, emphasis on laccases.
