Abstract Microplastics (MPs) are contaminants that damage lake ecosystems by enriching pollutants. This study investigated the current state of MPs in lakes using bibliometric method and correlation analysis. The results show abundance is negatively correlated with depth area distance to populated areas, positively surrounding population density. main factors influencing MP were human activities, including pollution diffusion waste generation from agricultural, industrial, domestic activities. prevalent water systems vary type shape. Moreover, vertically distributed lakes, resulting high concentrations sediments. Lake ice caps adsorb air during freezing, leading higher on surface lower layers (10–100 times than water). mechanisms underlying toxic effects organisms aquatic identified study. can inhibit growth plants suppressing photosynthesis. When combined other pollutants, disrupt energy metabolism, cause physiological changes liver, even lead death organisms. We established evidence regarding migration regulation ice, water, sediment, multi-media currently insufficient requires further exploration. aims identify sources, pathways, regulations, support future research solutions. Microplastics have been investigated over the last decade as potential transport vectors for other pollutants. However, specific role of plastic aging, in which plastics change their characteristics time when exposed to environmental agents, has overlooked. Therefore, sorption experiments were herein conducted using virgin and aged (by ozone treatment or rooftop weathering) microplastic particles LDPE - low-density polyethylene, PET poly(ethylene terephthalate), uPVC unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride). The organic micropollutants (OMPs) selected sorbates comprise a diversified group priority substances contaminants emerging concern, including pharmaceutical (florfenicol, trimethoprim, diclofenac, tramadol, citalopram, venlafaxine) pesticides (alachlor, clofibric acid, diuron, pentachlorophenol), analyzed at trace concentrations (each ≤100 μg L-1). Sorption kinetics equilibrium isotherms obtained, well confirmation that aging degree microplastics plays major capacities. results show an increased several OMPs on compared pristine samples, i.e. capacity increasing from one two sorbed (maximum 3 g-1 per sorbate) up nine after 10 sorbate). extent depends OMP, polymer effectiveness treatment. modifications (e.g. chemical structure) between linked certain OMPs, allowing better understand different affinities observed. Additionally, phytotoxicity tests performed evaluate mobility effects (on germination early growth) combo species plants (Lepidium sativum Sinapis alba). These suggest low no effect under conditions tested but indicate need further research behavior soil-plant systems.

Plastic wastes are becoming one of the most serious environmental pollutants because their high antidegradation properties and damage they cause to human health. More seriously, plastics can become smaller in size form microplastics (MPs), attributing oxidation, weathering, fragmentation processes. The influx MPs into water bodies seriously affects quality aquatic environment. Therefore, it is necessary summarize aging process MPs. In this review, we first provided an overview definition source Then analyzed potential pathways current environment elaborated on changes physicochemical during (e.g., particle size, crystallinity, thermodynamic properties, surface functional groups). addition, possible synergistic contamination with other illustrated. Finally, mechanisms generation toxicity persistent free radicals (EPFRs) that may be generated photoaging were described, feasibility using photoaged as photosensitizers catalyze photoreactive degradation organic proposed. Overall, review provides a comprehensive objective evaluation behavior
