Olive mill wastewater (OMWW) is produced annually during olive oil extraction and contains most of the health-promoting 3-hydroxytyrosol fruit. To facilitate its recovery, enzymatic transesterification hydroxytyrosol (HT) was directly performed in an aqueous system presence ethyl acetate, yielding a acetate rich extract. For this, promiscuous acyltransferase from Pyrobaculum calidifontis VA1 (PestE) engineered by rational design. The best mutant for acetylation (PestE_I208A_L209F_N288A) immobilized on EziG

Polyphenols are secondary metabolites produced by plants, which contribute to the plant’s defense against abiotic stress conditions (e.g., UV radiation and precipitation), aggression of herbivores, plant pathogens. Epidemiological studies suggest that long-term consumption polyphenols protects cardiovascular disease, cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases. Their structural diversity has fascinated confronted analytical chemists on how carry out unambiguous identification, exhaustive recovery from plants organic waste, define their nutritional biological potential. Abstract A significant portion of the human diet is comprised fruits, which are consumed globally either raw or after being processed. huge amount waste and by-products such as skins, seeds, cores, rags, rinds, pomace, etc. generated in our homes agro-processing industries every day. According to previous statistics, nearly half fruits lost discarded during entire processing chain. The concern arises when those wastes damage environment simultaneously cause economic losses. There a lot potential these for reuse variety applications, including isolation valuable bioactive ingredients their application developing healthy functional foods. development novel techniques transformation materials into marketable commodities may offer workable solution this issue while also promoting sustainable growth from bio-economic viewpoint. This approach can manage well add value enterprises. goal study twofold based on scenario. first present brief overview most substances found by-products. second review current status valorization trends techniques, safety assessments, sensory attributes, challenges. Moreover, specific attention drawn future perspective, some solutions discussed report.

Achieving renewable clean energy to meet increasing global demand and counter overreliance on depleting unsustainable sources has recently drawn significant research interest. Similarly, attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs) "zero hunger" agenda, massive agricultural/food productions are embarked on, leading increased agro-food waste (AFW) generation with enormous handling costs evade its contribution environmental pollution. The advent of biorefineries fostered a healthy balance for tackling challenges from AFW – thereby promoting circular bioeconomy (CBE). Integrating several emerging microbial/enzymatic bioconversion processes facilitated overall increase in process efficiency. This review, therefore, provides extensive information ecological impacts AFW, as well biorefinery sustainability. We also critically reviewed advances integrated engineering valorization. Finally, limitations prospects real-life application these recent approaches were suggested.

Agrifood industries generate large amounts of waste that may result in remarkable environmental problems, such as soil and water contamination. Therefore, proper management treatment have become an environmental, economic, social challenge. Most these wastes are exceptionally rich bioactive compounds (e.g., polyphenols) with potential applications the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical industries. Indeed, recovery polyphenols from agrifood is example circular bioeconomy, which contributes to valorization while providing solutions problems. In this context, unconventional extraction techniques at industrial scale, microwave-assisted (MAE), has demonstrated its efficacy laboratory level for analytical purposes, been suggested search more efficient procedures. On other hand, natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) proposed green alternative typical solvents. This review aims provide comprehensive insights regarding phenolic waste. Specifically, it focuses on utilization MAE conjunction NADES. Moreover, delves into possibilities recycling reusing NADES a sustainable cost-efficient application. The results obtained MAE-NADES approach show high efficiency contributing practices field product extraction. However, further research necessary improve our understanding strategies, optimize yields, reduce overall costs, facilitate scaling-up.

Winery wastes are rich in polyphenols with high added value to be used cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food products. This work aims at recovering purifying the polyphenolic fraction occurring malolactic fermentation lees generated during production of Albariño wines. Phenolic acids, flavonoids, related compounds were recovered from this oenological waste by green liquid extraction using water as solvent. The resulting extract solution was microfiltered remove microparticles further treated ultrafiltration (UF) membranes 30 kDa 5 molecular weight cut-offs (MWCOs). feed sample filtrate retentate solutions each membrane system analyzed reversed-phase chromatography (HPLC) UV mass spectrometric (MS) detection. most abundant extracts identified quantified, namely: caftaric acid a concentration 200 µg g-1 trans-coutaric acid, cis-coutaric gallic astilbin concentrations between 15 40 g-1. Other minor phenolic acids flavanols also found. UF process did not modify composition, but filtration through poly-acrylonitrile elicited decrease content. Hence, recommended pre-process extracts. combined purification presented here is environmentally friendly demonstrates that wines valuable source compounds, especially acids.
