There has been an increase in the production of food waste materials worldwide due to rapid population growth. The ineffective and sometimes unscientific ad hoc disposal these led environmental pollution. Studies have reported occurrence heavy metals water resources poses serious health threats environment human health. Heavy are documented be recalcitrant conventional treatment facilities since they non-biodegradable. use waste-based adsorbents provides alternative solution for adsorption resources, with concomitant benefit valorization otherwise materials. Therefore, this study examined applications removal metal ions. adopted a literature-based approach which involved reviewing published papers from selected science databases. results indicate that bioadsorbents great efficiencies different with, rice husks sugarcane bagasse demonstrating special sorption properties, especially chromium lead ions, respectively. data were mostly best described by Langmuir Freundlich isotherm models, suggesting monolayer coverage similar sites heterogeneous surface, Further, kinetic studies indicated processes largely followed pseudo second-order model, showing chemisorption-mediated rate-limiting steps. However, regardless encouraging attained, limitations such as variation composition structure. This leads inconsistencies efficiencies, regenerations reuse, reduced capacities. is also possibility leaching may in-turn cause secondary Sustainability investigations life cycle assessment, cost-benefit analysis, pilot-scale optimization present areas future research.

Abstract Urbanization and industrialization generate vast amounts of solid waste, posing significant threats to the biotic abiotic components environment. Solid wastes-derived carbonaceous catalysts (SW-CCs) represent an effective strategy for resource utilization, SW-CCs are gradually applied in environmental remediation energy fields. However, effects properties on their catalytic activity remain inadequately understood. A comprehensive review applications fields is yet be achieved. It necessary systematically latest research progress First all, this summarizes influences various factors how these affect activity. Subsequently, it explores recent existing issues (persulfate activation, photocatalysis, Fenton-like oxidation) sector (H 2 production, biodiesel CO conversion). Finally, future prospects recommendations provided facilitate further development application SW-CCs. This offers new insights into utilization waste efficient practical catalysts. Graphical
