This study employed potassium carbonate (K2CO3) activation using ball milling in conjunction with pyrolysis to produce biochar from one traditional Chinese herbal medicine Atropa belladonna L. (ABL) residue. The resulting KBC800 was found possess a high specific surface area (SBET = 1638 m2/g) and pore volume (1.07 cm3/g), making it effective for removing norfloxacin (NOR) wastewater. Batch adsorption tests confirmed its effectiveness eliminating NOR, along excellent resistance interference impurity ions or antibiotics. Notably, the maximum experimental NOR capacity on 666.2 mg/g at 328 K, surpassing those of other materials reported. spontaneous endothermic could be better suited Sips model. Additionally, adsorbs mainly by filling, electrostatic attraction, π–π EDA interactions, hydrogen bonds also contributing significantly. machine learning model revealed that significantly affected initial concentration, followed SBET average size. Based random forest model, is demonstrated able adsorb effectively. It noteworthy use low-cost pharmaceutical wastes adsorbents emerging contaminants such as antibiotics have greater potential future practical applications under ongoing dual carbon policy.
