Microplastics (MPs) as hazardous contaminants has drawn the rapid attention of general public due to their omnipresence and adverse impacts on ecosystems human health. Despite this, understanding MPs contamination levels in estuarine along Bay Bengal coast remains very limited. This research focused presence, spatial distribution, morpho-chemical characteristics ecological implications water sediment from five key estuaries (Meghna, Karnaphuli, Matamuhuri, Bakkhali, Naf rivers) within delta. Out estuaries, Meghna exhibited least amount both surface (150.00 ± 65.62 items/m3) (30.56 9.34 items/kg). In contrast, highest occurrence was recorded Karnaphuli river (350.00 69.22 Matamuhuri (118.33 26.81 ANOVA indicated a statistically significant distinction (p < 0.01) among examined estuaries. Most identified were fibers <0.5 mm size samples. Transparent dominant (42.28%) (45.22%). Besides violet, red, blue, pink green colored also observed. Various polymer types, including PE, PP, PET, PS, Nylon, EVA, ABS, detected, with PE being one. Based risk index (PHI), classified hazard level V, signifying severe MP contamination. However, potential (RI), pollution load (PLI) moderate levels. study offers initial insights into caused by major delta, which policymakers can utilize implement suitable management strategies.

Annually, the Mediterranean region attracts around one-third of global coastal tourism, which is acknowledged as a substantial contributor to plastic pollution. Coastal municipalities mitigate this through periodic sand and shore cleaning. However, efficacy these measures remains uncertain. In study, occurrence MPs (10 μm-5 mm) in from seven different, regularly cleaned, touristic beaches coastline Valencia province (E Spain) was assessed. Two different sampling campaigns were performed winter summer (2022) compare results understand influence high activity, well as, efficiency taken against The methodology used designed specifically for matrix employed density separation using Sediment Microplastic Isolation (SMI) Unit. addition conventional visual inspection ATR-FTIR, automatic quantification identification polymers lower size by μFTIR. average concentration (339 ± 92 MP kg−1 stereomicroscopy 339 189 μFTIR) significantly higher than (71 143 85 kg−1) (p < 0.05). combination analytical tools provides comprehensive information about present beach sand. Microplastics (MPs), an emerging pollutant, have drawn attention on a global scale and been found in various ecosystems. Nevertheless, there is currently lack of information regarding the contamination levels MPs aquaculture ponds worldwide. In this study, sediment water samples were collected from five types fish ponds, namely, homestead (S1), commercial (S2), near residential area (S3), small-scale industrial (S4), large-scale (S5), to identify, characterize, assess risk MPs. Stereomicroscopic Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analyses revealed that ranged 3.33 item/kg 136.67 16.6 item/L 100 samples. The accumulation of microplastics (MPs) in estuarine regions and their ecological consequences have become global environmental concerns. Estuarine sediments function as major sinks for MPs hotspots critical biogeochemical processes, which are significantly influenced by benthic bioturbation. However, the impacts on behavior highly mobile organisms effects bioturbation activities remain poorly understood. This study utilized laboratory simulation experiments, AI-based behavioral tracking, metagenomic sequencing to systematically examine sand crab migration, sediment physicochemical properties sulfur cycling processes. Results demonstrated that substantially enhanced vertical migration MPs, with fluxes surface layers overlying water increasing 27-fold compared undisturbed conditions. Exposure PE-MPs reduced crabs' foraging intensity induced abnormalities. crabs actively avoided exhibiting a preference burrowing residing deeper layers. shift altered microbial community distributions, an increase Pseudomonadota abundance decline sulfate-reducing bacteria Thermodesulfobacteriota abundance. Furthermore, accelerated sulfate oxidation while inhibited dissimilatory reduction. is first identify role promoting upward sediments.
