In recent years, China has made remarkable progress in infrastructure construction, which greatly contributed to the development of regional economy. However, impacts construction on ecological environment are increasing concern. This study aimed quantitatively assess two expressways (the Chanliu Expressway and Linghua Expressway) constructed during different time periods, impact road ecosystem effectiveness Chinese government’s efforts environmental protection. The pressure–state–response (PSR) model was adopted, integrates a variety remote sensing indicators. pressure, state, response pre-, mid-, post-construction periods were assessed. results reveal that (1999–2002) Expressways (2019–2023) ecosystems different. For Expressway, pressure continually increased, state significantly declined period. When finished, continuously deteriorated. due lack effective protective measures its construction. contrast, experienced reduced period, with remaining relatively stable, as more implemented. it later relied natural recovery, led an increase indicate China’s have achieved significant years. future, is essential maintain long-term health by strengthening restoration management continuous monitoring.
