Kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix) is a popular citrus in Southeast Asia. Despite the growing interest peel of fruit, leaves are most frequently used part fruit. The aim study was to determine main by-products peel, such as pectins, minerals, essential oil, and bioactive compounds, evaluate possibility using them various branches industry. In oil obtained by hydrodistillation performed TGA chromatography technique (GC-MS), sabinene (31.93%), β-pinene (26%), limonene (19%) were selected abundant volatile compounds. Nine microelements (Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Co, Ni, Cr, Mo, V), four macroelements (Mg, Ca, K, Na), seven ballast substances (Cd, Hg, Pb, Al, V, Sr, Pt) also determined microwave plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (MP-AES). case microelements, iron 32.72 ± 0.39 mg/kg DW (dry weight) had highest concentration. macroelements, calcium content 9416 34 DW. Optimization pectin extraction selecting citric acid obtaining yield 7.6-17.6% for 9.9-28.2% ultrasound-assisted (UAE), depending on temperature used. pectins characterized degree methylation, galacturonic content, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging, DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) analysis. Among contents polyphenols (22.63 2.12 mg GAE/g DW), flavonoids (2.72 0.25 CE/g DW, vitamin C (2.43 0.19 Asc), xantoproteins + carotenes (53.8 4.24 ug), anthocyanins (24.8 1.8 CGE/kg chlorophylls A B (188.5 8.1, 60.4 3.23 µg/g DW) evaluated. Antioxidant capacity (cupric ion-reducing antioxidant capacity) CUPRAC DPPH assays provided with results 76.98 12.01 1.02 µmol TE/g respectively.

Grapefruit (GF) processing generates significant nutrient and economic losses due to the production of 50% by-products, primarily peels. GF peels are a rich sustainable source bioactive compounds (BCs), such as essential oils (EOs) phenolic compounds. Thus, finding value-added solutions based on circular economy is paramount. This research aims assess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial properties hydroethanolic polyphenol-rich extract from crude (GF-CE), oil (GF-EO), after extraction (GF-PE). The GF-CE GF-PE showed high concentrations naringenin (7.71 48.60 mg/g dry (DE)), narirutin (15.03 28.73 DE), hesperidin (0.67 0.29 mg/mL), respectively. Extracting firstly EOs improved release acids (p-coumaric, ferulic, chlorogenic acid). exhibited stronger free radical scavenging activity mainly in DPPH (IC50 = 75.69 ± 0.81 µg/mL) than GF-EO (1271 0.85 (113.45 µg/mL). demonstrated moderate against Gram-positive bacteria compared reference standard (amoxicillin) strong yeast Candida albicans (inhibition zone 16 mm). major included D-limonene (25%), nootkatone (24%), β-pinene (8%). Both extracts promising activities COX1 COX2 inhibitors with IC50 values 25 0.1 0.28 0.00 µg/mL (compared celecoxib (97.5 0.31 0.01 indomethacin (6.25 0.52 standards), study concludes that valuable BCs bioactivities, offering multi-cascade approach recovering alignment principles open opportunities functional ingredients for food applications.

More and more research is being focused on the production of value-adding products from waste materials. Food not only a major global issue, but also an excellent source bioactive compounds. In this study, parameters that affect extraction compounds (polyphenols, ascorbic acid, hesperidin, carotenoids) orange peels, their antioxidant properties, were optimized, using response surface methodology (RSM) (examining temperature, time, composition solvent). addition, effect two techniques was examined [ultrasound (US) pulsed electric field (PEF)], either separately or combined, so as to determine whether they can enhance From our results, it apparent peels are many since extracts contained hesperidin (16.26 mg/g dw), total polyphenols (34.71 mg GAE/g acid (1228.93 mg/100 g dw) carotenoids (52.98 μg CtE/g dw).

Differences between seven authentic samples of Citrus sinensis var. Valencia peel (albedo and flavedo) juices from Spain Uruguay, in addition to a concentrate obtained Brazil, were investigated by untargeted metabolic profiling. Sixty-six metabolites detected nano-liquid chromatography coupled high-resolution electrospray-ionization quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer (nLC-ESI-qTOF-MS) belonging phenolic acids, coumarins, flavonoid glycosides, limonoids, terpenes, fatty acids. Eleven for the first time identified as citroside A, sinapic acid pentoside, apigenin-C-hexosyl-O-pentoside, chrysoeriol-C-hexoside, di-hexosyl-diosmetin, perilloside gingerol, ionone epoxide hydroxy-sphingenine, xanthomicrol, coumaryl alcohol-O-hexoside. Some flavonoids completely absent juice, while present most prominently peel, conveying more industrial economic prospects latter. Multivariate data analyses clarified that differences among orange parts overweighed geographical source. PCA analysis ESI-(-)-mode revealed hydroxylinoleic abundance flavedo Uruguay distant cluster all others. The ESI-(+)-mode provided clear segregation different primarily due large diversity coumarins studied samples.
