Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the effect affiliative-based humorous leadership on hotel employee outcomes (i.e. resistance change and upward voice), underpinned by affective events theory. Further, investigates psychological capital as a mediation emotional intelligence moderation effect. Design/methodology/approach Using structured questionnaire, 554 supervisors 20 four- five-star hotels in Sharm El-Sheikh responded based time-lagged approach. Tourism support policies are an important issue in managing a public health crisis. This research examines 136 tourism policy texts issued by central and local governments China from 22 January to 31 December 2020. The evolution is divided into three phases: suspension of business activities enterprises (22 January–24 February 2020), orderly resumption production (25 February–28 April regular pandemic prevention control (29 2020–present). Avoiding negative word of mouth would be vital importance for promoting sustainable rural tourism. By searching the channels influencing effect residents' irregular business behaviours (RIBB) on (NWOM) in tourism destinations, incorporating how to moderate such effect, this study found that RIBB affect NWOM via tourists' anger emotions (TAE) or regret (TRE). Additionally, destination attractiveness positively moderates either TAE TRE, indicating tourists with a high perceived attraction might not mitigate which go against saying 'Love me, love my dog'. This thus argued thereby deteriorating NWOM, an essential finding may contribute existing literature by shedding new light important and special role providing alternative explanation based emotion-appraisal theory.
