Drought propagation is a complex process, and understanding the mechanisms of meteorological drought to soil crucial for early warning, disaster prevention, mitigation. This study focuses on eight tributaries in upper reaches Shiyang River. Based Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) Soil Moisture (SSMI), Propagation Intensity (DIP) Copula function were applied quantify intensity time from explored patterns at different temporal spatial scales these tributaries. Results showed that, 0–10 cm layer, was peer-to-peer, with one month. In middle (10–40 cm) deep (40–100 layers, characteristics differed between eastern western The experienced stronger shorter times (2–4 months), while exhibited peer-to-peer longer (4–10 months). large areas forests grasslands River contributed strong land–atmosphere interactions, leading layer. had extensive cultivated land, where irrigation during enhanced moisture, resulting layers. contrast, tributaries, larger forest widespread permafrost, high water consumption limited recharge 10–40 40–100 propagation.

Drought is one of the most frequent types natural disasters in world, and it has been classified into several different categories. Generally, meteorological drought considered to be beginning a disaster, while socio-economic possible ultimate result. However, controversy remains around main impact factors propagation from over past decades. In this study, comprehensive investigation 2022 event city Lishui, China was conducted build model for analyzing drought. The results showed that had great on city’s activities. According governmental reports basic information water sources, random forest attribution analysis built. demonstrated performance distinguishing whether occurred, with an accuracy 0.9935, true positive rate 0.9489 false 0.0021. Additionally, variables related sources—including drainage area, covered population daily supply volume—were found more important than other conditions model, meaning capacity sources factor between words, feasible prevent through conservancy engineering construction.

Persistent droughts pose a threat to agricultural production, and the changing environment worsens risk of drought exposure. Understanding propagation in environments assessing possible impact factors can help early detection drought, guiding production practices. The current study cannot reflect status total terrestrial hydrological so this work creatively investigated atmospheric time Yangtze River Basin under dynamic static perspectives based on Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index Terrestrial Water Storage Anomalous Drought Index, fine-tuned scale seasonal scale, explored contributing capacity variable interactions. results show that: (1) perspective, while is decreasing annual spring season shows opposite trend; (2) large variability exists timing at spatial scales, with elevation playing most important influential role, bivariate interactions stronger explanations compared single variables. This highlights importance considering contributes our understanding response secondary upper-level droughts, providing valuable insights into hydrologic drought.

The mid-lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin (MLRYRB) experience continuous daily precipitation during flood season and superposition tends to exacerbate localized flooding because both long preceding succeeding (PSP), as well extreme (EP) components. This study focused on time cross-section in which an EP event (EPE) was defined involving at least one day consecutive precipitation. We analyzed spatiotemporal variation characteristics four types EPEs (front, late, balanced, single day) based data obtained from 130 meteorological stations. Precipitation amount frequency EPE accounted for only 13% 21%, respectively, while balanced) that are associated with PSP 87% 79%, confirming connotation EPE. front late under 100-year return level reached 250 mm 230 mm, respectively. In addition southeastern coastal region, a special patch central part MLRYRB identified hot spot. Global warming could lead significant increases low latitudes future, particularly southern region. concept is useful exploring disaster-causing processes EP, it provides theoretical basis deriving hazard chain estimation disaster effects.
