Sustainable and affordable supply of clean, safe, adequate water is one the most challenging issues facing world. Membrane separation technology cost-effective widely applied technologies for purification. Polymeric membranes such as cellulose-based (CA) thin-film composite (TFC) have dominated industry since 1980. Although further development polymeric better performance laborious, research findings sustained progress in inorganic membrane grown fast solve some remaining problems. In addition to conventional ceramic metal oxide membranes, prepared by graphene (GO), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), mixed matrix materials (MMMs) attracted enormous attention due their desirable properties tunable pore structure, excellent chemical, mechanical, thermal tolerance, good salt rejection and/or high permeability. This review provides insight into synthesis approaches structural recent reverse osmosis (RO) nanofiltration (NF) which are used retain dissolved species heavy metals, electrolytes, salts various aqueous solutions. A specific focus has been placed on introducing comparing purification different classes related treatment industries. Furthermore, challenges opportunities organic discussed perspectives analyzed.

Porous polymeric membranes have emerged as the core technology in field of separation. But some challenges remain for several methods used membrane fabrication, suggesting need a critical review literature. We present here an overview on porous preparation and characterization two commonly polymers: polysulfone poly (vinylidene fluoride). Five different fabrication are introduced: non-solvent induced phase separation, vapor-induced electrospinning, track etching sintering. The key factors each method discussed, including solvent system type composition, polymer solution composition concentration, processing parameters, ambient conditions. To evaluate these methods, brief description is given related to morphology performance. One objective this basics selecting appropriate systems with conditions produce desired morphology, performance stability, well select best determine properties.
