Post COVID-19 condition (PCC) is increasingly recognized as a debilitating characterized by persistent symptoms following SARS-CoV-2 infection. Neuropsychological deficits, including cognitive impairments and fatigue, are prevalent in individuals with PCC. The PoCoRe study aimed to evaluate the burden of neuropsychological deficits PCC patients undergoing multidisciplinary indoor rehabilitation describe possible changes this symptomatology. study, prospective, non-randomized, controlled longitudinal recruited from six German centers. Eligible participants underwent comprehensive assessments at admission discharge. Various measures were employed, fatigue scale for motor functioning cognition (FSMC), Test Battery Attention (TAP) Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Out 1,086 participants, total N = 701 included main data analysis. prevalence on was high (84.6%) decreased significantly discharge (77.4%), mild effect size. Reaction times alertness subtest abnormal 70% 50% Sustained attention 55% admission, decreasing 43% These differences significant sizes. Furthermore, 27% pathological MoCA scores 63% improved normative levels during rehabilitation, indicating treatment (p ≤ 0.001). However, demonstrated limited sensitivity detecting deficits. highlights patients, notable improvements observed rehabilitation. Challenges remain accurately identifying addressing these underscoring importance assessment tailored interventions. Abstract Background Patients with acute COVID-19 can develop persistent symptoms (long/post syndrome). This study aimed to project the economic, health care, and pension costs due long/post-COVID-19 syndrome new onset in Germany 2021. Methods Using secondary data, economic were calculated based on wage rates loss of gross value-added. Pension payments determined incidence, duration, amount disability pensions. Health care expenditure was rehabilitation expenses. Results The analysis estimated a production 3.4 billion euros. value-added be 5.7 financial burden systems SARS-CoV-2 infection approximately 1.7 Approximately 0.4 percent employees are projected wholly or partially withdrawn from labor market medium term long/post-COVID Conclusion Costs 2021 not negligible for German economy but may still manageable.

Long-term coronavirus disease 2019 (long COVID) is associated with physio-somatic (chronic fatigue syndrome and somatic symptoms) affective (depression anxiety) symptoms. The severity of the long COVID physio-affective phenome largely predicted by increased peak body temperature (BT) lowered oxygen saturation (SpO2) during acute infectious phase. This study aims to delineate whether association BT SpO2 phase mediated neurotoxicity (NT) resulting from activated immune-inflammatory oxidative stress pathways. We recruited 86 patients (3-4 months after phase) 39 healthy controls assessed serum C-reactive protein (CRP), caspase 1, interleukin (IL) 1β, IL-18, IL-10, myeloperoxidase (MPO), advanced oxidation products (AOPPs), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), calcium (Ca), as well phase.Cluster analysis revealed that a significant part (34.9%) (n = 30) show highly elevated NT index computed based on IL-1β, CRP, MPO, AOPPs. Partial least squares showed 61.6% variance in could be explained index, Ca, BT/SpO2 prior vaccinations AstraZeneca or Pfizer. most important predictors are AOPPs, MPO.The infection-immune-inflammatory core COVID-19 strongly predicts development symptoms 3-4 later, these effects partly neuro-immune neuro-oxidative pathways.
