Purpose: Abnormalities in aquaporins are implicated the pathological progression of dry eye syndrome. Retinoic acid (RA) regulates cellular proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis cornea, thereby being associated with disease (DED). The objective this study is to explore underlying mechanisms responsible for RA metabolic abnormalities corneas lacking aquaporin 5 (AQP5). Methods: Dry (DE) models were induced via subcutaneous scopolamine hydrobromide. Aqp5 knockout (Aqp5−/−) mice DE utilized assess corneal epithelial alterations. Tear secretion, goblet cell counts, punctate defects evaluated. impact on RA-related enzymes receptors was investigated using pharmacological or SR (A JunB inhibitor), a transcription factor inhibitor, treatment mouse cells (CECs), human (HCECs). HCECs NaCl-treated underwent quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), immunofluorescent, Western blot, TUNEL assays. regulation Aldh1a1 explored ChIP-PCR. Results: reduced both CECs NaCl-induced HCECs. Aqp5−/− exhibited phenotype Aldh1a1. apoptosis, promoted improved mice. enrichment promoter identified by significantly increased expression, Ki67, ΔNp63-positive cells, decreased TUNEL-positive Conclusions: Our findings demonstrated downregulation expression aberrant metabolism conditions. Knockout resulted production through activation JunB, subsequently leading manifestation symptoms.

Abstract AIM To explore the factors causing structural abnormalities of meibomian gland in pediatric population. METHODS Two-hundred children were enrolled to evaluate morphology gland. Demographic and clinical information collected. Symptoms dry eye disease (DED) assessed with ocular surface index (OSDI) questionnaire. Meibography was performed grading images by a 5-point meiboscale (0–4) for atrophy 3-point score (0–2) tortuosity. RESULTS 200 eyes participants aged 10–18 years (13.10 ± 2.39 years) imaged. Most patients had 1, 130 (65%) meiboscore 138 (69%) The BMI category showed significant difference increase weight, BMI, OSDI BUT. tortuosity age BMI. Gender no effect on meiboscore, category. Besides, BUT affected OSDI. significantly correlated percentile. CONCLUSION In this population, become higher decrease BUT, became more serious Therefore, we should pay attention overweight tructure reduce risk meibomain dysfunction (MGD).

Background: Occupational risk assessments of VDT users are usually hindered by the variability tasks that office workers perform. Digital eye strain is related to amount work time dedicated screen fixation. Purpose: This study aimed improve assessment introducing an advanced version software developed at University Brescia. Methods: The prototype enables recording times in front and those which operator actively fixes. It was tested on 30 employees from different offices. system includes a webcam placed over workers’ screens connected with laptop running specifically monitoring software. experiment required worker-to-worker calibration investigators. Results: obtained data allowed us distinguish between period fixation presence monitor. visual activity varied greatly daily basis because differences tasks. mean facial detection approximately 48%, whereas 29%. Conclusions: results suggest our promising tool for investigating relative contributions development digital occupational strain.
