Racist public policies in the US, like redlining, segregated many communities of color to resource poor and impoverished areas, codified how resources were distributed based on race. Redlining, a historic discriminatory housing policy used value city neighborhoods by race has segregation cities today. Research shown practice redlining shaped economic social fabric modern U.S. cities, but only recently have researchers explored these influenced ecology cities. Here, we camera trap data collected Washington, D.C. region assess if impacts medium-sized mammal diversity present day. We found no significant difference species richness or community composition among neighborhood classifications. did find that urbanization alone had negative correlation with persistence raccoon occupancy Virginia opossum, variables not vary significantly between classifications for any species. Our study adds growing body knowledge land use decisions affect biodiversity allowing managers better understand where conservation habitat improvements should be made reduce nature inequalities.

The paper examines the integration of novel Transportation Ecology principles into transit operations, aiming to address environmental impacts associated with surface services in urban areas and purpose creating a comprehensive agenda for integrating ecological planning management. research problem is quantify tangible benefits operators, particularly context mitigating wildlife-vehicle collisions improving overall operational efficiency as motivator managers adopt principles. study design, after analyzing regulatory requirements, implements scenario-based methodology, utilizing data from an average Italian bus fleet estimate potential monetary savings benefits. Key parameters, such maintenance costs, insurance premiums, collision-related expenses, are analyzed provide realistic assessment economic advantages implementing measures. findings reveal that significant cost reductions can be achieved by minimizing accidents involving wildlife, alongside other improvements. scenario demonstrates even small fleet, when adopting these principles, yield substantial financial benefits, thereby making compelling case broader implementation. concludes while qualitative nature analysis necessitates conservative estimates, results underscore value incorporating considerations These insights vital operators policymakers seeking balance sustainability profitability protect ecosystems. This also implies need more holistic interdisciplinary approach transportation
