Reducing farmland abandonment is crucial for food security. While the association between e-commerce proliferation and at village level has been discussed, correlation farming household remains unexplored. Utilizing 2020 survey data from 3831 rural households across 10 Chinese provinces, this study develops an “e-commerce–household–farmland abandonment” framework to explore co-occurrence of engagement with abandonment, using econometric models. The findings reveal that significantly increases implicit explicit rates rising by 10.3% 28.5%, respectively. It also shifts incomes planting forestry, animal husbandry, fisheries, leading reallocate labor away agriculture, thereby intensifying abandonment. However, land transfer can alleviate co-occurrence. This explores variation in participation relation agricultural subsidies, economic development, presence family farms. By elucidating dynamics level, research offers fresh perspectives developing countries safeguard security curbing

Introduction Specialty agricultural farmers have widely adopted digital technologies in all aspects of their specialty operations. However, the effect technology application (DTA) on farmers’ income has not been fully evaluated. Moreover, it remains unclear whether DTA enhances (FI) by improving varied capabilities. To fill this gap, we analyzed intrinsic relationship and mechanism between DTA, capability (FC), income. Methods Using field survey data from 635 litchi China, employed OLS regression models mediation to empirically investigate DTA’s direct indirect impacts Additionally, examined group heterogeneity regional heterogeneity. Results discussion The empirical results show that can promote enhancing production capacity (PC) transaction (TC). Heterogeneity analysis showed empowering is especially significant for disadvantaged farmers, who are resources-rich regions. Conclusion This study contributes body research empowerment examining a perspective. Consequently, better play policymakers should account disparities promoting agriculture, enhance heterogeneous capability.
