Abstract Accumulating evidence indicates that game-based learning is emotionally charged. However, little known about the nature of emotions in learning. We extended previous research by examining epistemic and their relations to flow experience situational interest. Sixty-eight 15–18-year-old students played Antidote COVID-19 game for 25 min. Epistemic emotions, flow, interest were measured after playing session. These measures indicated engaged students. Students reported significantly higher intensity levels positive (excitement, surprise, curiosity) than negative (boredom, anxiety, frustration, confusion). The co-occurrence network analyses provided insights into relationship between found an asymmetrical pattern “situational interest-flow” co-occurrence. When occurred, was always co-occurring. This suggests could be a prerequisite or potential trigger but not adequate state ensuring high experience. Further, co-occurred mainly with emotions. findings imply are similar constructs share several characteristics. study also demonstrated can used as proxies engagement. Implications discussed.

The drive to encourage consumers reduce animal meat protein has resulted in a substantial market for plant-based products. Despite willingness and acceptance among certain sectors of the population, there remains large proportion unwilling try meat. Through lens political ideology applying message congruence theory, we demonstrate that current framing is incongruent conservative USA. A pre-test (n = 262), using predict meat, revealed significant effect such conservatives were significantly less likely want learn about or it. content analysis 82) press releases from major company highlights promoted based on three key benefits: taste, health environment. Finally, an experiment, participants 200) randomly assigned view advertisement either cited environmental benefits did not. Curiosity is one of the most fundamental biological drives that stimulates individuals’ intense desire to explore, learn, and create. Yet, mechanisms how curiosity influenced by instructional pedagogy remain unclear. To shed light on this gap, present study sets out investigate underlying channels linking active learning pedagogy, learner engagement, curiosity, employing a partial least-squares structural equation model leveraging Social Emotional Skills Survey dataset across ten sites (N = 45,972). Findings indicate positively associated with engagement (std. β 0.016, p 0.005), but there lacks significant direct effect −0.001, 0.738). Structural mediation results show key mediating channel 0.013, 0.005).

Intellectual curiosity and personal interest are both believed to spark information seeking facilitate learning. In two preregistered studies (Study 1: exploratory lab study, N = 312; Study 2: online conceptual replication 960), we investigated effects of on participants’ as they studied a hypertext historical topic. We captured their behavioral traces with log files. also examined curiosity, interest, information-seeking behaviors knowledge attainment. studies, latent profile analyses based trace data revealed that some profiles were more adaptive (e.g., broad deep-diving seeking, 1; 2) less disengaged). More consistently related better test performance. Curiosity positively predicted 1) performance 2); however, these inconsistent across study contexts. Furthermore, did not interact in predicting or attainment (Studies 1 2). Overall, our work extends the understanding how intellectually curious interested individuals learn attain underscores promise using interindividual differences.

Despite the benefits of eating insects (entomophagy), Western society is often inclined to reject this practice based on initial reactions disgust. It suggested there potential overcome attitude through increasing interest and gaining knowledge benefits. One way accomplish an adapted utility-value intervention, traditionally applied in education research, increase perceived value a topic. Across two studies (each with one-month follow-up) participants researched wrote essay designed entomophagy or control essay. Participants then completed rating task assessing their willingness try insect familiar foods, along other key attributes (e.g., sustainability). The intervention increased foods as well compared non-insect (Study 1). Unexpectedly, we also found potentially similar (but smaller) effect researching insect-based recipe 2) try. effects both were consistent at follow-up. These findings indicate usefulness interventions encouraging but suggest that exposure information about food, although less effective than may be sufficient.

Developmental research utilizes various different methodologies and measures to study the cognitive development of young children; however, reliability validity such have been a critical issue in all areas practices. To address this problem, particularly area on infants' interests, we examined convergent previously reported children's interests natural object categories, as indexed by (1) parents' estimation their child's interest (2) extrinsic (overt choices task), (3) intrinsic (looking time toward objects), (4) physiological (pupil dilation) responses objects categories. Additionally, also discriminant aforementioned against well-established validated measure estimations vocabulary knowledge. Children completed two tasks: (a) an eye-tracking task, where they were presented with images from range defined which collected indices looking pupillary activity; (b) sticker-choice asked choose between sticker-images categories belonging assessed previous task. Parents questionnaires estimate (i) (ii) knowledge presented. We first analyzed parent measures, found significant positive association them. Our successive analyses showed no strong or associations any our apart From findings, conclude that thus far may not sufficient adequately capture potential relationship these index components children. suggest next steps for further validation studies infant research.
