Abstract The microplastic body burden of marine animals is often assumed to reflect levels environmental contamination, yet variations in feeding ecology and regional trait expression could also affect a species’ risk contaminant uptake. Here, we explore the global inventory individual for invertebrate species inhabiting sediments across 16 biogeographic provinces. We show that benthic invertebrates cannot be fully explained by absolute contamination environment, because interspecific differences behaviour strongly determine Our analyses indicate degree species-specific particle selectivity; likely associated with biology. Highest occurs Yellow Mediterranean Seas and, contrary expectation, amongst omnivores, predators, deposit feeders rather than suspension species. findings highlight inadequacy uptake assessments based on inventories alone, need understand how covary contamination.

Water organic pollution has become a major issue. A large number of people suffer from the decline in water quality. In addition, polluted can lead to health problems or excessive deaths. this regard, an increasingly important method for efficient treatment is electrocoagulation (EC), technology that encompasses small equipment size combined with simple operation compared other methods. The importance EC especially accentuated by recent decarbonization efforts due increasing availability renewable electricity systems. This review provides overview most developments as it pertains wastewater treatment. preferred over traditional methods its easy setup and low material costs. Moreover, very powerful destabilizing impurities charge neutralization then coagulating form flocs. shown high efficiency not only removing various pollutants but also emerging persistent contaminants, such microplastics. For these reasons, mechanisms related functional modalities are reviewed, well extensive details provided on diversity removed contaminants. Overall, significant new knowledge interest environmental chemical researchers particular engineers general purification.

Abstract Microplastic pollution has adversely affected the aquatic ecosystem, living creatures, and human health. Several studies in Malaysia have provided baseline information on existence of microplastics surface water, ingestion by marine life sediment. Also, humans are exposed to microplastic due consumption contaminated abiotic biotic products, such as processed seafood. Nonetheless, knowledge is still scarce among Malaysian potential remediation management microplastics, which poses a significant challenge preserve good environmental status. Green technologies also other alternative mitigate contamination for sustainable future. Hence, this review aims provide an overview microplastic's occurrence, fate, implications Malaysia's environment. Detection from water surface, aquatics, sediment samples highlighted. Available different treatment processes toward discussed. Additionally, challenges, current perspective plastic Malaysia, well green strategies reducing put forward. The goal work improve understanding seriousness environments, thus encouraging key concerns that need be investigated further.

The pervasive presence of microplastics in our environment necessitates urgent measures to prevent further release and address existing contamination hotspots. This work focuses on the removal from sludges sediments through application dissolved air flotation (DAF). In addition experimental investigations, study presents development a predictive model for formation aggregates comprising bubbles DAF contact zone. First an empirical was established predict attachment efficiency between particles (αdb). To this end, determined various plastics, with varying particle sizes shape factors, system conditions. obtained data set utilized establish by PLS regression describing αdb based size, bubble density, Hamaker constant, angle, solid load, aspect ratio, circularity, sphericity, resulting MSPE 0.011 adjusted-R² 0.64. Secondly, semi-deterministic XDLVO theory developed using MLR, where described natural logarithm Van der Waals, electrostatic hydrophobic forces acting bubble, RSE 0.067 0.63. Finally, applicability these models demonstrated case industrial sludge consisting sediment PVC microplastics. Validation dimensioning unit processing at capacity 20 m³.h-1 emphasize practical implications models.
