As the human population grows, anthropogenic impacts from various agricultural and industrial processes produce unwanted contaminants in environment. The accurate, sensitive rapid detection of such is vital for health safety. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) a valuable analytical tool with wide applications environmental contaminant monitoring. aim this review to summarize recent advancements within SERS research as it applies detection, focus on published or accessible January 2021 through December including early-access publications. Our goal provide breadth information that can be used background knowledge field, well inform encourage further development techniques protecting quality Specifically, we highlight characteristics effective nanosubstrates, explore methods inorganic, organic, biological heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, plastic particles, synthetic dyes, pesticides, viruses, bacteria mycotoxins. We also discuss current limitations technologies propose several avenues future investigation. researchers fill identified gaps so implemented real-world environment more effectively efficiently, ultimately providing reliable timely data help make science-based strategies policies protect safety public health.

Microplastics (MPs) form the most investigated plastic category since their size (1 μm- 5 mm) enables them to accumulate in various environmental compartments and be ingested by biota. Beach sand sediment can indicators of MP contamination levels coastal marine ecosystem and, thus, they are widely analyzed. With increasing number publications recent years, there is a need for constant updates on variety extraction analysis procedures developed. Thus, this review aims evaluate sample preparation techniques MPs provide critical discussion determination based studies published last years. We also report conditions imposed identification quantification isolation as well materials used procedures. Finally, we address expectations new challenges related instrumental innovations.

Mangroves are crucial ecosystems that play a role in carbon sequestration, shoreline fortification, and provide habitats for diverse species. In developing nations like India, there is need more knowledge on the occurrence distribution of MPs mangrove forests under changing seasons. Our investigation aimed to fulfil this research gap by studying seasonal patterns microplastic within sediments Kota mangroves south-western India. The mean (± standard deviation) abundance was 1418.52 (±1404.34) MPs/kg during wet season 1414.32 (±1368.65) dry season. A consistent pattern categories observed, with fibres being predominant shape followed film, fragment, foam. Microplastics size 0.1–0.3mm were dominant all Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR) Raman analyses revealed presence polypropylene, polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene. Energy Dispersive between control extracted samples adsorption Cd, Zn, Pb, Fe, Ni onto microplastics. primary contributors MP pollution attributed fishing related activities, fish meal processing industry, tourism, local households. This study established baseline information dynamics governing microplastics sediment mangroves.
