The demand for eco-friendly and natural food packaging materials has sparked considerable interest in the research development of sustainable active materials. In this study, a chitosan-based film was developed using glycerol as plasticiser, chitooligosaccharide (COS) an additive, gallic acid cross-linking agent. physical, barrier, mechanical, morphological, thermal, functional properties fabricated films were measured. bio-composite showed significantly lower moisture content (from 24.28 to 17.01%), water solubility 41.56% 31.03%), vapour permeability (14.63 9.79 × 10−9 gm−1s−1Pa−1), light transmittance 63.67% 21.71%) compared neat chitosan film. Furthermore, exhibited higher tensile strength (57.66 MPa) elongation at break (88.76%), smooth microstructure, strong DPPH ABTS radicals scavenging capacity, good antimicrobial activity towards E. coli, L. innocua, S. cerevisiae, non-toxic HaCaT cells indicating promising potential use packaging.
