This paper investigates the production scheduling problems of allocating resources and sequencing jobs in seru system (SPS). As a new-type manufacturing mode arising from Japanese practices, can achieve efficiency, flexibility, responsiveness simultaneously. The environment which set must be scheduled over serus according to due date different execution modes is considered, combination optimization model provided. Motivated by problem complexity characteristics proposed model, nested partitioning method (NPM) designed as solution approach. Finally, computational studies are conducted, practicability proven. Moreover, efficiency demonstrated results obtained scenarios, good scalability approach proven via comparative analysis.

Abstract Motivated by a practical production scheduling problem at factory, this article studies problems in seru system (SPS). Seru is relatively new‐type mode originating Japan and has brought inspiring benefits to practice. Following the just‐in‐time philosophy of SPS, objective minimize sum earliness tardiness penalties. Two common due date types job are considered, formulated as 0–1 quadratic programming model with linear constraints that then reformulated using convex reformulation methods ensure convexity. Computational experiments implemented. Experimental results indicate proposed exact solution method can obtain approximate optimal solutions efficiently effectively for problems.
