Inequity is ubiquitous in the ocean, and social equity receives insufficient attention ocean governance management efforts. Thus, we assert that proponents of sustainability must center future governance, to address past environmental injustices, align with international law conservation policy, realize objectives sustainability. This obligation applies across all marine policy realms, including conservation, fisheries management, climate adaptation economy, socio-political contexts at different geographical scales. Indeed, many governmental, non-governmental, philanthropic organizations are striving advance their focused agendas, policies, programs, initiatives, portfolios. To date, however, there has been limited how meaningfully assess status monitor progress on (aka “ocean equity”) realms. Here, contribute ongoing efforts through providing guidance five steps develop bespoke, fit purpose contextually appropriate assessment monitoring frameworks approaches measure track changes equity. Then, discuss four subsequent take into account ensure assessments lead adaptations or transformations improve Communicating results reach key audiences, enable learning inform decision-making; Deliberating actions selecting interventions equity; Ensuring implemented; and, Committing continual cycles monitoring, evaluation, adapting regular intervals. Following these could change oceans governed. The diligent pursuit will help course towards sustainable more representative, inclusive just.

Abstract Many seafood products marketed as “sustainable” are not. More exacting sustainability standards needed to respond a fast-changing world and support United Nations SDGs. Future fisheries must operate on principles that minimise impacts marine life, adapt climate change allow regeneration of depleted biodiversity, while supporting enhancing the health, wellbeing resilience people communities. We set out 11 actions achieve these goals.

One of the most promising economic arenas in coming decades is ocean and there are currently numerous initiatives to ‘blue economy’ discourse that revolves around argument small-scale fishers’ livelihoods require greater attention. To synthesize current scientific knowledge address prevailing research gaps surrounding this discourse, I conduct a scoping review global literature on blue economy, growth, social equity, Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF) analyse different international policy papers national-level economy plans. explore need for further research, focuses how aspects risks lead inequity pursuit sustainability. The Blue Economy (BE) is increasingly seen as a field of new opportunities. Nearshore Marine Space (NMS) understood the area in opposition to offshore space, having great deal human activities. While historically significant and culturally valuable, NMS remains underappreciated within BE context. This study employs bibliometric analysis explore key attributes critical for sustainability BE. By analyzing (i) social ecological significance, (ii) spatial characteristics, (iii) nature activities, (iv) conservation strategies, we aim stimulate comprehensive discussion on enhancing through focus NMS. review highlights need better address diversity uses their cumulative impact over marine coastal ecosystems. Relevant features included multiple uses, terrestrial influence, value. Moreover, plays vital role communities fishing, supporting cultural heritage, poverty alleviation, resilience. As a complex system involving intra- and interrelevance among multiple economic entities, the core of blue development consists identifying key entities their relevance structures that play significant role in resource allocation within system. The structural adjustment industries, enrichment product baskets, management decisions firms, export positioning provinces will make drive dynamic changes. Therefore, from perspective theory, this paper first analyzes factors affecting stability national based on industry relevance, firm province cross-agent relevance. Second, mechanism is qualitatively explored intra-agent at single level interagent cross level. Finally, an example China used to guide its economy practice. This can serve as premise foundation for country achieve growth, promote common agents economy, provide scientific basis systematically formulate policies.
