Abstract
The
incidence
of
type
2
diabetes
(T2DM)
increases
significantly
worldwide.
Due
to
consistent
hyperglycemia,
insulin
resistance,
and
chronic
inflammation,
T2DM
patients
encounter
osteoporosis
induced
osteoporotic
fracture
risks.
Antidiabetic
drugs
have
been
traditional
therapies
that
seek
control
blood
glucose,
balance
bone
metabolism,
favor
systemic
immunosuppression.
However,

long‐term.
Today,

are

Synthesis of Functional Pectin‐Based Hydrogels via Thiol‐Maleimide Click Reaction for Enhanced Drug Encapsulation and Release

ABSTRACT
This
work
describes
the
synthesis
and
characterization
of
a
novel
hydrogel
system
based
on
pectin
(PT)
functionalized
with
thiol
maleimide
groups
cross‐linked
by
thiol‐maleimide
click
chemistry.
Thiolated
PT
(PT‐SH)
maleimide‐modified
(PT‐Ma)
precursors
were
synthesized
carbodiimide‐mediated
amidation
confirmed
elemental
analysis,
FTIR,
1H
NMR
spectroscopy.
The
resulting
exhibited
gelation
efficiency
over
80%,
swelling
degrees
ranging
from
44%
to
80%
depending
cross‐linking
density,
pH‐sensitive
behavior
maximum
at
pH
8.
demonstrated
high
mechanical
stability,
compressive
strengths
20.8–33.2
kPa,
increasing
density.
As
model
drug,
ibuprofen
was
encapsulated
efficiencies
up
337
mg/g
released
in
controlled
fashion.
In
vitro
release
studies
showed
slower
acidic
environments,
which
ranged
22%
53%
within
6–10
h,
faster
slightly
alkaline
environment,
consistent
profile
hydrogel.
Such
properties
underline
hydrogel's
potential
for
sustained
drug
delivery.

Osteoarthritis

diseases,

seriously
affects

elderly
people.
Traditional
treatments
such
as

do

expected

optimal
results,
leads
to
severe
trauma

Hydrogels
are
widely

biomedical
