Based on current trends and policies aimed at decarbonizing energy systems, the conversion of biomass to bioenergy has potential grow rapidly, but such growth depends development efficient, sustainable, competitive supply chains. As a result, chain stimulated interest diverse group researchers across academia, government, industry, there is need synthesize categorize rapidly expanding literature in this field. We conducted review using advanced bibliometric analysis visualization 1711 peer-reviewed articles published from January 1992 August 2022 with aim promoting impactful research both growing neglected areas investigation. The results show that are gaps opportunities six critical areas: globalization research; incorporation uncertainty, stochasticity, risk into models; investigation multi-feedstock systems; strengthening resilience; application inventory control methods; broader use machine learning artificial intelligence By providing holistic examination how biomass-to-bioenergy grown evolved over period, our subsequent framework recommendations can aid developing future studies guide stakeholder strategies identify, diagnose, address modern challenges face industry.
