There has been a progressive global increase in the usage of electric vehicles this dispensation. This is mostly due to need decarbonise transport sector and mitigate concerns climate change depleting oil reserves which South Africa not an exception. In fact, country with highest CO2 emissions can reduce its carbon footprint by embracing green mobility. Compared internal combustion engine (ICE) market, vehicle (EV) market still early stages, limited local production since introduction country’s automotive 2013. Therefore, study, EVs Africa, along adoption rates challenges were carried out make stronger case that would offer better pathway for increased EV country. It discovered slow rate factors such as procurement, ownership costs, parts, safety issues, battery technology, tax import duties, load shedding, availability charging stations. paper also provides insights into government policies, funding, other efforts support through analyses primary secondary data. The proposed strategies include rebates on imported EVs, their retrofitting ICE science-informed transition from vehicles. Furthermore, more renewable energy grid integration energy-powered stations provide required power even during shedding. Preliminary findings survey suggest components government-sponsored training programmes various skills are crucial increasing

The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is sweeping the world, and Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) no exception. Despite environmental sustainability narratives surrounding EVs, it now undeniable that transition to mobility inevitable. Over last couple of years, region has made considerable advancements in transitioning towards transportation, with government private sector collaborating make EVs more accessible public. progress made, still lowest rate globally. Moreover, available information limited identifying critical challenges require attention ensure a reasonable decarbonization passenger transport region. This review focuses on current advancements, challenges, opportunities EV development SSA puts forward ways hasten its faces significant need be addressed. Particularly, absence clear policies regulations outline targets for individual countries, high purchase price poor electricity networks, scarcity public e-charging stations are primary impediments obstruct SSA. To expedite transition, highly recommended formulate new regional national strategies rather than adopting developed nations' model blueprint.

The transition to electric vehicles (EVs) will require significant changes in the automotive industry, particularly concerning its labour force. This study evaluates impact of EVs on employment within South Africa’s component manufacturing sector. A system dynamics model was developed assess effect EV market penetration over time. Key drivers conventional and industries were identified incorporated into model. results indicate a negative 18.3% when considering 20.0% sales (EV20) 2040. Scenario analyses highlighted influence individual components, battery localisation, load shedding labour. Tyre wheel found be most impactful industry against electrical engines counterpart. Localising 25.0% production could increase by 6.9% 2.7% EV40 EV20 Scenarios. Load has detrimental country’s economy, assumed reduce 30.0%. However, strategic policy interventions can mitigate adverse effects this transition.
