Digital Twins (DT) play a key role in Industry 4.0 applications, and the technology is process of being mature. Since its conceptualisation, it has been heavily contextualised often misinterpreted as merely virtual model. This paper reviews notion Twin represented literature analyses different kinds descriptions, including several definitions architectural models. A new fit-for-all definition proposed which describes underlying without context-specific also overcomes pitfalls existing generalised definitions. In addition, three-dimensional five-dimensional models DT architecture their characteristic features are analysed. simplified two-branched model introduced, retains clear separation between real spaces outlines latter based on two modelling approaches. then extended for condition monitoring electronic components systems, hybrid approach Prognostics Health Management (PHM) further elaborated on. The framework, enabled by model, combines physics-of-degradation data-driven approaches empowers next generation reliability assessment methods. Finally, benefits, challenges, outlook discussed.

The use of digital twins (DTs) in the electric power industry and other industries is a hot topic research, especially concerning potential DTs to improve processes management. This paper aims present approaches creation models general. It also examines key parameters these presents challenges that need be addressed future development this field. Our analysis discussed carried out on basis identified characteristics, which serve as criteria for an evaluation comparison sets further investigation. A discussion findings shows different sectors. proposed recommendations are based analysis, aim support DTs. Research into represents promising sector with high potential. However, several issues order fully realize their benefits practice.

The reactor cores of the Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors (AGRs) are made up a large, three-dimensional array interlocking graphite bricks. To assess seismic performance wider range in given condition (number, type, location and orientation cracking individual components) that would be possible with physical testing, computational model or digital twin has been developed. Cross-comparison numerical simulations using this output from testing quarter-scale have used to validate model, which then behaviour full-sized during event. These assessments aim demonstrate can shut held down adequate cooling fuel maintained after events.
