Abstract This technical note presents a device to diminish scattering signal in front-face fluorescence spectra while obtaining signal. The beam path commercial spectrometer was modified by two deflecting mirrors, leading reflections away from the sensor. light modifying (LPM) tested with fluid and three solid substances, where scattering-to-fluorescence ratio improved factor of 1.7 7.6. obtained LPM were much clearer, distortion peaks avoided. Scans quinine sulphate complied well reference spectra.

Abstract In this research communication, we report the results of a field survey conducted in part plume Amazon River between 0° and 5°N offshore 28 m isobaths November 2022, during low river discharge season. By comparing observed vertical salinity profiles ‘disturbed’ by continental discharges within with virtually ‘undisturbed’ ones outside plume, estimated total content fresh water area covered measurements as 203 ± 22 km 3 , which equals to less than 3% average annual discharge. Furthermore, argue that river-borne was not confined upper mixed layer show about 37%, or 76 its volume entrained into plume-underlying maximum. This point is additionally supported analysis chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) fluorescence samples, demonstrating significant concentrations terrigenous CDOM depths up 140 m. We also there direct correlation freshwater accumulated affected background stratification (expressed buoyancy frequency) unaffected below it.
