A hybrid ultrafiltration-osmotic membrane bioreactor (UFO-MBR) was investigated for over 35 days nutrient and trace organic chemical (TOrC) removal from municipal wastewater. The UFO-MBR system uses both ultrafiltration (UF) forward osmosis (FO) membranes in parallel to simultaneously extract clean water an activated sludge reactor nonpotable (or environmental discharge) potable reuse, respectively. In the FO stream, is drawn by through into a draw solution (DS), which becomes diluted during process. reverse (RO) then used reconcentrate DS produce suitable direct reuse. UF extracts water, dissolved salts, some nutrients prevent their accumulation of osmotic MBR. permeate can be reuse purposes (e.g., irrigation toilet flushing). Results investigation illustrated that oxygen demand, total nitrogen, phosphorus removals were greater than 99%, 82%, Twenty TOrCs detected wastewater as feed system. Among these 20 TOrCs, 15 removed below detection limit. High rejection observed all ionic nonionic hydrophilic lower hydrophobic TOrCs. With exceptions bisphenol DEET, well rejected RO membrane. Overall, operate sustainably has potential utilized applications.
