The use of gold nanoparticles (Au-NP) based medical applications is rising due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Diagnostic devices on Au-NP are already available in the market or clinical trials therapeutics theranostics (combined diagnostic treatment modality) research development phase. Currently, no information consumption, material flows concentrations environment available. Therefore, we estimated prospective maximal consumption from UK US. We then modelled post-use predicted environmental concentrations. Furthermore, assessed risks by comparing (PECs) with ecological threshold (PNEC) values. mean annual 540 kg for 2700 Among compartments, PEC sludge both US was at 124 145 μg kg−1, respectively. surface water 468 4.7 pg L−1, respectively NOEC value compartment ranged 0.12 up 26,800 most values range 1000 L−1. results using current set data indicate that risk used nanomedicine waters agricultural biosolids minimal near future, especially because have a worst-case assessment. More toxicity studies needed soil compartment.
