In this work, we demonstrate application purpose-built high multidimensional test battery on larval stages Danio rerio (zebrafish) at 5 days post fertilization (dpf). The automated comprised the established spontaneous swimming (SS), simulated predator response (SPR), photomotor (LPR) assays as well new thermotaxis (TX) assay. We applied novel system characterize environmentally relevant concentrations emerging pharmaceutical micropollutants including anticonvulsants (gabapentin: 400 ng/L; carbamazepine: 3000 ng/L), inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen: 9800 antidepressants (fluoxetine: 300 venlafaxine: 2200 ng/L). successful integration thermal preference assay into provided means reveal ibuprofen-induced perturbations behaviors upon exposure during embryogenesis. Moreover, discovered that responses in fish are also altered by yet understudied anticonvulsant gabapentin. Abstract There are concerns that microplastics act as a vector of pharmaceuticals in the aquatic environment. Most studies have focussed on pharmaceutical adsorption and not investigated desorption various matrices enter. Therefore we studied antidepressant drug fluoxetine from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) river water, sea simulated gastric intestinal fluids. We found most occurred rapidly, within few hours exposure. Fluoxetine fitted well to Freundlich isotherm with r 2 values ranging 0.97 0.99. Desorption decreased following order: fluid at 20 °C 37 °C; water then °C. The little difference gastrointestinal fluids suggests similar exposure risk cold- warm-blooded organisms PET microplastic ingestion. Total sequential incubation h 4 mimic digestion was 37% 41% Interestingly, higher 18–23% compared 4–11%. Under worst-case scenario, more than 44 mg kg −1 body weight d or 52 respectively, need be consumed exceed mammalian acceptable daily intake for fluoxetine. Further needed ingestion bioavailability adsorbed range exposed organisms.

Pristine LDH calcined at 500°C to produce Oxide (LDO). two materials were modified via restacking-delaminating bioactive compounds from flower extract Clitoria ternatea (CT) LDH-CT and LDO-CT. Modifications are enhance stability catalyst structure, allowing its higher photocatalytic activities regeneration use. prepared catalysts characterized XRD, FT-IR, UV-DRS, BET, SEM-EDX. With the primary objective to develop efficient, environmentally benign, visible-light-driven heterogeneous catalysts for degradation of metoclopramide (MCP), a waste-water pollutant, newly prepared composite Pd-Fe3O4/NiFe-LDH catalyst is reported. This material has been characterized with wide range analysis methods (i.e. XRD, SEM-EDS, BET, FTIR, TG-DTG, DTA, DRUV and TEM analysis). When applied aqueous solutions MCP, displayed photocatalytic MCP an efficiency 95.2% in 80 min. The rate this was higher than that pure NiFe-LDH or Fe3O4/NiFe-LDH. best activity obtained at pH 6.5, 0.4 g/L catalyst. Application Arrhenius equation yielded activation energy process 13.4 kJ/mol. A negative ΔS‡ (-0.25 kJ/mol) positive ΔH‡ ΔG‡ values were photodegradation.

Fluoxetine is an antidepressant widely used to treat depressive and anxiety states. Due its mode of action in the central nervous system (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI)), it becomes toxic non-target organisms, leading changes that are harmful their survival. In this work, effects fluoxetine on juvenile zebrafish (Danio rerio) were evaluated, assessing biochemical (phase II biotransformation—glutathione S-transferase (GST), neurotransmission—acetylcholinesterase (ChE), energy metabolism—lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), oxidative stress—glutathione peroxidase (GPx)) behavior endpoints (swimming behavior, social thigmotaxis) after 21 days exposure 0 (control), 0.1, 1 10 µg/L. Biochemically, although chronic did not induce significant neurotransmission metabolism, GPx activity was decreased µg/L fluoxetine. At a behavioral level, exploratory affected. However, swimming pattern exposed fish observed light dark periods (decreased locomotor activity). Overall, data show chronically may exhibit changes, affecting ability respond environmental stressors interaction with other fish.

Residual antidepressants are of increasing concern worldwide, yet critical information on their long-term neurotoxic impacts nontarget aquatic animals is lacking. Here, we investigated the effects (from 0 to 150 days postfertilization) selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor citalopram (0.1–100 μg/L) motor function, learning, and memory in zebrafish over two generations explored reversibility effect F1 larvae. Unlike F0+ larvae, found that F1+ larvae displayed decreased sensorimotor performance when continuously exposed at 100 μg/L. No adverse were F1– after they transferred a clean medium. Whole-mount immunofluorescence assays suggested impairments related axonal projections spinal neurons (MNs). For adults, exposure mainly caused male-specific declines motor, performance. Analysis serotonergic cholinergic MNs revealed no significant changes male cord. In contrast, number glutamatergic decreased, likely associated with impairment function. Additionally, treatment μg/L significantly reduced dopaminergic neurons, but neuronal apoptosis was observed adult telencephalon. Overall, this study provides neurobehavioral evidence novel insights into mechanisms may facilitate assessment environmental health risks posed by citalopram-containing antidepressant drugs.
