High global plastic production volumes have led to the widespread presence of bisphenol compounds in human living and working environments. The most common bisphenol, A (BPA), despite being endocrine disruptive estrogenic, is still not fully banned worldwide, leading continued exposure via particles air, dust, surfaces both outdoor indoor While its abundance well documented, few studies addressed chemical transformations BPA, properties reactive products, their toxicity. Here, first gas-surface multiphase ozonolysis experiment BPA thin films, at a constant ozone mixing ratio 100 ppb, was performed flow tube for periods up 24 h. Three transformation products involving addition 1, 2, 3 oxygen atoms molecule were identified by LC-ESI-HRMS analyses. Exposure air surface films BPA-containing thermal paper over days validated experiments, demonstrating rapid nature this reaction atmospherically relevant levels. Multiple pathways are proposed that likely applicable only but also emerging commercial products.

Microplastics (MPs) in the environment have become a global concern, not only for physical effects of plastic particles themselves but also being vectors chemical additives. In this context, little is known about ability MPs, particularly extruded polystyrene microplastics (XPS-MPs), to release organic additives marine environment. study, series field and laboratory experiments were carried out determine leaching behaviour including brominated flame retardants from XPS-MPs into seawater. The conducted confirmed rapid bisphenol A (BPA), 2,4,6-tribromophenol (TBP), tetrabromobisphenol (TBBPA) hexabromocyclododecane diastereoisomers (α-, β-, γ-HBCDD) studied MPs followed by slower rate over time. environmental factors on rates these examined. Increasing Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) concentrations temperature seawater enhanced increasing their solubility polymer flexibility. contrast, pH tested at 7, 7.5 8 was found minor effect leaching; salinity negatively affected likely due reduced diffusion MPs. present study provides empirical evidence as source that merit further investigation.

Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are synthetic chemicals that produced at high volumes and have a global presence. CPs generally divided into three groups based on their carbon chain lengths: short-chain (SCCPs, C10–13), medium-chain (MCCPs, C14–17), long-chain (LCCPs, C≥18). SCCPs been formally recognized as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) listed under the Stockholm Convention POPs.
