Estuaries serve as crucial filters for land-based pollutants to the open sea, but there is a lack of information on migration and fate organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) within estuaries. This study focused Pearl River Estuary (PRE) by examining co-occurrence OPFRs their metabolites quantifying transport fluxes using mass balance model. The seawater concentrations exhibited significant seasonal variations (p < 0.01), while sediment reflected long-term distributional equilibrium in PRE. concentration Σ

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) discharged from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have attracted increasing concerns because of their potential risks to aquatic ecosystems. The identification the structures OPEs is a prerequisite for subsequent assessment environmental impacts, which could hardly be accomplished using traditional target analytical methods. In this study, we describe use suspect and nontarget screening techniques organophosphate triesters diesters (tri-OPEs di-OPEs) in influent effluent samples acquired 25 municipal WWTPs across China. There are totally 33 different OPE molecules identified, 11 detected first time 4 new public. all tested samples, di-OPEs account significant portion (53% on average) total (ng/L−μg/L). More importantly, most not eliminated after these WWTPs, while some even accumulate. research priority based ecological risk was also analyzed, results reflected previously unrecognized exposure emerging living organisms. These findings present holistic understanding relevance country scale, will hopefully provide guidance upgrade protocols modification governmental regulations future.

Limited knowledge on the structure of emerging organophosphorus compounds (OPCs) hampers our comprehensive understanding their environmental occurrence and potential risks. Through suspect nontarget screening, combining data-dependent acquisition, data-independent parallel reaction monitoring modes, we identified 60 OPCs (17 traditional 43 compounds) in effluents 14 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) Beijing Qinghai, China. These comprise 26 organophosphate triesters, 17 diesters, 6 organophosphonates, 7 organothiophosphate esters, 4 other OPCs. Notably, were newly WWTP effluents, 16 discovered matrices. Specifically, cyclic phosphonate, (5-ethyl-2-methyl-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan-5-yl)methyl dimethyl phosphonate P-oxide (PMMMPn), consistently appeared all with semiquantitative concentrations ranging from 44.4 to 282 ng/L. Its analogue, di-PMMMPn, presented 93% samples. Compositional differences between two cities mainly attributed Hazard ecological risk assessment underscored substantial contribution chlorinated esters overall risks effluents. This study provides most OPC profiles date, highlighting need for further research occurrence, fate, risks, particularly

Polypropylene has been used for applications requiring high mechanical properties, good adhesion, chemical stability and insulation. Whereas, itself is flammable, its limiting oxygen index (LOI) low, which cannot pass the UL-94 combustion test. Therefore, extensive use will cause a serious threat to human life property. With wide application of thermoplastic polypropylene in industry, development environmentally friendly flame retardant materials become an important research direction. For past dozen years, researchers have exploring retardants with efficiency, low toxicity, less smoke or other excellent performance retardants. This paper reviews progress some phosphorus-containing on properties recent years. Phosphorus application. The types phosphorus be introduced, future summarized, direction opportunities.

Food ingestion has been established as an important human exposure route to many environmental contaminants (brominated flame retardants, dioxins, organochlorine pesticides etc). However, information regarding dietary organophosphate esters (OPEs) in the UK remains limited. This study provides first comprehensive dataset on OPEs diet by measuring concentrations of eight 393 food samples, divided into 15 groups, collected from Birmingham, UK. All target were measured above limit quantification at least one groups analysed. Concentrations highest (mean ∑8OPEs = 18.4 ng/g wet weight (ww)) milk and products, followed those cereal products 15.9 ww), with lowest chickens' eggs 1.61 ww). Interestingly, animal-derived foods 44.2 ww) statistically indistinguishable (p˃0.05) plant-derived 36.8 Estimated daily intakes (EDIs) under mean high-end scenarios for four age considered were: toddlers (420 1547 ng/kg bw/day) ˃ children (155 836) elderly (74.3 377) adults (62.3 278) bw/day, respectively. Baby contributed 39 % toddlers, non-alcoholic beverages contributing 27 children, while (25 %) fruits (22 main contributors elderly. The foodstuffs generally same order magnitude reported other countries our estimates well below corresponding health-based values.
